Nail is a Namekian of the warrior clan and the sole fighter-type Namekian remaining on Planet Namek during the events of the Frieza saga. He serves as the personal bodyguard to Grand Elder Guru, the eldest and leader of the Namekian race. Nail is an exceptionally powerful Namekian, possessing a power level of 42,000, which makes him the strongest inhabitant of Namek at the time of Frieza's invasion. In terms of appearance, he closely resembles Piccolo, apart from his clothing, which consists of a white weighted cape and a purple gi. His personality is defined by stoic composure, unwavering loyalty, and a deep sense of duty toward his people and his creator. He is courageous and selfless, willing to face overwhelmingly superior foes without hesitation in order to protect Guru and the Namekian Dragon Balls. When the Ginyu Force approaches, Nail acts on Guru's orders to assist Krillin and the others, but he senses danger and rushes back to Guru's palace, where he confronts Frieza. Refusing to reveal the secret of the Dragon Balls to someone he considers evil, Nail deliberately leads Frieza away from Guru to a remote battlefield to buy time for Dende to relay the Dragon Ball password to Krillin and Gohan. Despite landing a strike on Frieza's neck, Nail is vastly outmatched by Frieza's lowest power level of 530,000. Frieza effortlessly tears off Nail's right forearm, which Nail immediately regenerates using his Namekian regenerative abilities. Nail continues to challenge Frieza, enduring a brutal beating without showing fear, all while knowing his true goal is to stall the tyrant. He taunts Frieza by revealing the fight was a diversion, causing an enraged Frieza to leave him mortally wounded. Shortly afterward, a newly resurrected Piccolo arrives on the battlefield and discovers the dying Nail. Recognizing Piccolo as a fellow warrior with immense potential, Nail proposes a permanent fusion through the Namekian assimilation technique. This act is both a selfless sacrifice and a strategic decision: by merging his consciousness, combat experience, and power with Piccolo, Nail ensures his essence and strength will live on to challenge Frieza. Piccolo agrees after questioning Nail's motives, and the fusion dramatically increases Piccolo's power, allowing him to match and overpower Frieza's second form. Through this permanent union, Nail's spirit continues to exist within Piccolo, influencing his personality with wisdom, tactical insight, and a deeper connection to Namekian heritage. Nail's key relationships include his creator and charge Grand Elder Guru, whom he protects with absolute dedication; Dende, a younger Namekian he assists in carrying out the plan to use the Dragon Balls; and Piccolo, with whom he merges to become a unified being. His notable abilities include limb regeneration, which allows him to instantly regrow lost body parts, and the Namekian assimilation technique, which enables him to merge his life force with another Namekian, granting a tremendous increase in power at the cost of his individual physical form.
