Description
Hawthorn Grattor, also known as Hawthorn Grator, is the former Regimental Commander of the Royal Knights for the Rimdarl Kingdom. He survives the kingdom's vaporization during an attack by the Mask Oni, a pivotal event forcing him onto a path of survival and adaptation.

He possesses a tall stature, short brown hair, and dark brown eyes, typically dressed in practical brown pants and a blue shirt. Hawthorn maintains a consistently kind demeanor and rarely displays anger. His command experience fostered strong strategic thinking and effectiveness under pressure.

His involvement begins when he witnesses Sally and Frau defeat an oni. Hawthorn arrests them, taking them to the Rimdarl Kingdom's jail. After their release, he explains the arrest stemmed from Frau's demi-human status and ability to defeat an oni barehanded. Hawthorn expresses respect for Frau's actions in protecting humans and showing deference to the village chief, viewing such behavior as aligned with chivalry. During a subsequent oni attack on the kingdom, Hawthorn prioritizes Sally's safety while Frau confronts the threat, though Sally ultimately defeats the oni.

The next day, Hawthorn thanks Sally. He later seeks her and Frau's assistance to guard an unconscious humanoid oni girl discovered by his men, uncertain of her nature and unwilling to execute her prematurely. When the oni girl escapes with Sally and Frau, Hawthorn attempts to intercept them outside the castle but is physically overwhelmed by Frau. As he prepares pursuit with his knights, the Mask Oni obliterates the entire kingdom, killing his men and leaving him among the sole survivors.

Following the kingdom's destruction, Hawthorn continues to appear, participating in significant confrontations including engagements related to an Ogre God. His journey involves navigating alliances and conflicts in a war-torn environment, referenced in chapters like "Hawthorne and the Ogre God" and "Self-Defense and Alliances," indicating his ongoing role in broader conflicts.

Trained formally in knightly swordsmanship, Hawthorn is regarded as the physically weakest within his group but achieves notable victories, including defeating the powerful oni Todoroki, demonstrating effectiveness through skill and strategy rather than raw strength.
