Description
Mirai Trunks is the son of Vegeta and Bulma from an alternate future timeline. He first appears in Dragon Ball Z Kai as a mysterious young warrior who travels back in time to prevent a catastrophic future. In his original timeline, nearly all the heroes died: Goku succumbed to a heart virus before the arrival of the Androids, and the Androids 17 and 18 systematically killed the other Z Fighters, including Vegeta and Gohan. Gohan, the last surviving fighter, trained Trunks from a young age, serving as both a mentor and a surrogate brother. When Gohan was killed in battle, Trunks’ grief and rage triggered his transformation into a Super Saiyan for the first time. Left alone except for his mother Bulma, Trunks resolved to change history using a time machine she built.

His personality is shaped by the trauma and loss he endured. Unlike many Saiyans who crave battle for its own sake, Trunks is serious, cautious, and deeply driven by a sense of responsibility. He rarely displays arrogance and approaches fights with a strategic, survival‑oriented mindset. He is compassionate toward others and values the safety of his loved ones above all else. His primary motivation is to save his own world and to spare the past timeline from the same destruction.

In the story, Trunks serves as a vital messenger and catalyst. Upon arriving in the past, he quickly defeats Freeza and King Cold, demonstrating his Super Saiyan power and shocking the Z Fighters. He warns Goku about the heart virus, provides the antidote, and reveals the coming threat of Doctor Gero’s Androids. His intervention changes the course of events, allowing the heroes to prepare. During the Android and Cell sagas, Trunks fights alongside the others, training in the Room of Spirit and Time with Vegeta. He learns to push his Super Saiyan form into a bulky grade that maximizes strength at the cost of speed, a form he later abandons after realizing its limitations against Cell. He participates in the Cell Games and is momentarily killed by Cell, which sparks an emotional reaction from Vegeta and deepens their bond.

His key relationships include Gohan, whose teachings and sacrifice define his character; Bulma, whose intellect made the time travel possible and who remains a grounding influence; and Vegeta, with whom he has a complex but ultimately proud father‑son dynamic. Though initially distant, Vegeta comes to openly admire his son’s determination. Trunks also develops a mutual respect with Goku and the other Z Fighters.

In terms of development, Trunks evolves from a desperate, traumatized youth into a confident and powerful warrior. After Cell is defeated in the past, Trunks returns to his own timeline, now far stronger. He destroys the Androids 17 and 18, then eliminates the Cell of his timeline, restoring peace to his world. This arc completes his personal journey from survivor to savior.

Notable abilities include the Super Saiyan transformation and its advanced grades, expert swordsmanship with his signature longsword, and ki‑based techniques such as the Burning Attack and Finish Buster. He is also a skilled hand‑to‑hand combatant and can fly. His combat style blends Saiyan power with the precision training Gohan imparted, making him a formidable and tactically aware fighter.
