TV-Series
Description
Ania Fortuna, whose full name is Ania Fortuna Someshul Mik Krausenbrugge and who is often called Nia for short, is a character defined by her dual nature as both a genius scientist and a demon. She is a blonde-haired girl who initially appears young, though her appearance changes over the course of the story. Her family's profession involves the study of Asura Machina control systems, and she herself is a prodigy with exceptional skills related to these mechanical beings.
As a demon, Ania belongs to a specific type known as a luck-eater. This means her inherent ability is to consume the luck of other people, effectively controlling the balance between fortunate and unfortunate individuals. She can also bestow luck upon others. Ania comes from a German demon clan and travels to Japan with two primary goals. The first is to study a particular Asura Machina that has absorbed a Stabilizer. The second, more personal motivation is to search for her missing older sister, Christina Fortuna.
Within the narrative, Ania plays a crucial role as the main developer of the Asura Machina. Her expertise is fundamental to the story's central conflicts. Her involvement in this development comes from a complex chain of causality that begins in the second world, where she first encounters these machines. One of the conditions for creating the Asura Machina is tied to her sister Christina's request to complete a device known as the Liberator of the Deputy Maiden.
Ania's personal journey is marked by significant displacement and growth. During a battle involving a being named Hagane, she is thrown into a different reality known as the first world. This event occurs five years prior to the main timeline in that world. After this displacement, she loses her youthful appearance and matures. She joins an organization called La Croix and becomes known as the Witch of Rakuro, spending years capturing and killing dangerous creatures called daughter larvae that appear throughout the world.
Her key relationships are primarily with the protagonist, Tomoharu Natsume. She forms a friendly bond with the Tomoharu of the first world, even revealing to him how his counterpart in the second world is fated to die. She is unable to prevent this death because doing so would erase the history of the Asura Machina's creation, leaving no weapon to oppose a god named Deus. Despite her apparent fondness for the first Tomoharu, her true romantic feelings are for the main Tomoharu from the second world. In a significant moment before he leaves to confront the god, she kisses him to transfer her luck to him.
Regarding her abilities, beyond her primary power as a luck-eater demon, Ania's most notable talent is her genius-level intellect in engineering and developing Asura Machina. She uses her sister's research data to help create these powerful machines. In the end, following the resolution of the central conflict, circumstances return to normal, and Ania reverts to her original size, continuing her life without any special changes.
