Description
Kakeru Miwa is a high school student marked by impulsiveness and a lack of mindfulness, yet driven by a fierce protective instinct and anger at injustice. He possesses shaggy brown hair, brown eyes, and a slim build, typically wearing a gakuran and hoodie. As the sole survivor of an Oni attack that killed his parents, he carries unresolved trauma and a desire for heroism, maintaining a close bond with childhood friend Kippei Nagatsu.
His path into the conflict begins accidentally when he dons a Yoroi—a powered suit fusing ancient knowledge and modern technology—during an Oni assault. This forces him onto a team protecting Oka Myojin, the prophesied shrine maiden destined to save the world. Initially reckless and hotheaded, Kakeru charges into danger without strategy. A pivotal moment occurs when the Oni Ibara curses him with a berserk transformation; this curse nearly drives him to kill Oka in battle, though he resists at the last instant, forcing him to confront his vulnerabilities and begin maturing.
Kakeru evolves from impulsiveness into a disciplined, courageous fighter. He forms a tenuous partnership with Ibara—revealed as an Oni sealed within a Yoroi—learning to harness the curse's power without losing control. This stabilizes his transformations and sharpens his combat effectiveness. His fighting style blends mixed martial arts techniques fluidly, augmented by hyper evasion allowing him to dodge diverse physical and supernatural attacks. He coordinates with teammates Ryo Hattori, Kaede Naruse, and Haruko Yamada to repel Oni incursions. Confrontations escalate when they encounter the Black Team, led by Oka's sister Benio Myojin, and uncover her father Masanori Myojin as the architect of Japan's Oni chaos. Battles against adversaries like Issa Inuzuka solidify Kakeru's unwavering resolve to protect others.
The climax sees Kakeru uniting his team and the Black Team to expose and defeat Masanori, ending his reign of destruction. After their victory, Ibara departs, and Kakeru bids him farewell. Transitioning to a peaceful life, he maintains bonds with friends and allies, no longer engaged in combat. His journey concludes as a self-assured protector who has fulfilled his aspiration of becoming a true hero.
