Description
Fanny is the French name for Kurumi Kasuga, the younger sister of protagonist Kyosuke Kasuga in the anime and manga Kimagure Orange Road. She is the fraternal twin sister of Manami, referred to as Manu in the French adaptation, making them false twins rather than identical siblings. As a member of the Kasuga family, Fanny inherits the psychic powers passed down from her deceased mother, a trait she shares with her brother and sister while their father remains a normal human.

In terms of personality, Fanny is depicted as a spirited and unpredictable young girl. She is often described as explosive, careless, and wholly irresponsible, acting on impulse without much consideration for the consequences. Her behavior is characterized by a carefree and somewhat naive approach to life, although she is not entirely one-dimensional. As she grows, she begins to experience the first stirrings of romantic feelings, which allows her to reveal a more nuanced and mature side of her personality on occasion. This combination of immaturity and budding emotional awareness makes her a typical adolescent, prone to both childish mischief and moments of genuine feeling.

Fanny’s primary role within the story is to act as a source of comedic conflict and domestic trouble for her older brother, Kyosuke. Alongside her twin sister Manami, she frequently creates chaotic situations that complicate his already difficult life, which is centered on hiding their supernatural abilities and navigating a complicated love triangle. The twin sisters are often the catalysts for problems that Kyosuke must then solve, usually with his powers, which threatens their family’s secret and forces them to move to a new town. Her actions, driven by a lack of discipline, stand in stark contrast to her sister Manami, who is portrayed as domestic, careful, orderly, and often acts as the household’s surrogate mother.

The relationship between Fanny and her twin sister Manami is central to her character, built on a dynamic of opposites. While Manami is studious and responsible, Fanny is wild and unconcerned with order, leading to natural friction and humorous interactions between them. Her relationship with Kyosuke is typically that of an annoying younger sibling who inadvertently endangers his social standing and secrets. However, the family shares a strong bond, united in their effort to keep their psychic heritage hidden from the outside world. The twins' actions frequently attract the unwanted attention of Kyosuke’s two lecherous friends, Komatsu and Hatta, who are obsessed with the sisters, much to Kyosuke’s horror.

In terms of abilities, Fanny possesses a range of psychic powers, including teleportation, telekinesis, and psychokinesis. Like the rest of her siblings, she can use these abilities, but often does so without the necessary caution or forethought. Her immature and rash nature means she is more likely to use her powers for trivial or selfish reasons, leading to unintended and often complicated results that drive much of the episodic humor in the series. While she does not undergo a dramatic character transformation, her development is subtle, marked by brief glimpses of emotional depth as she encounters her own first loves and begins to understand more complex feelings, hinting at the young woman she will eventually become.
