Description
Ishidate serves as the primary antagonist and field commander for the coup d'état in the Land of the Moon. He is a missing-nin, a rogue ninja with no allegiance to any hidden village, which is symbolized by the lack of any marking on the forehead protector he wears. Hired by the corrupt minister Shabadaba, his primary mission is to assassinate the royal family to facilitate the overthrow of the king.

Ishidate is characterized by a profound and overbearing arrogance. From his first appearance, he displays immense confidence in his own power, believing himself to be superior even to elite ninja such as Kakashi Hatake. This ego, however, masks a fragile psyche; when he is overwhelmed in battle by Naruto Uzumaki, he completely loses his composure. His arrogance devolves into a deranged obsession with killing Naruto, not to complete his mission, but to reaffirm his own perceived superiority. Despite this volatile temperament, he possesses a cunning and tactical mind, capable of deducing diversionary tactics and exploiting enemy weaknesses.

Within the story, Ishidate is a constant and direct threat to the protagonists. He is responsible for the fatal injury of the previous king, Kakeru Tsuki. Throughout the film, he leads his team to pursue the prince, Michiru Tsuki, and his son, Hikaru Tsuki. His role is that of an enforcer, using brute force and psychological pressure to corner the royal family and their protectors from Konohagakure. He is the leader of a group of mercenary ninja who work together, relying on a shared combat tactic of close-range taijutsu supplemented by a performance-dulling gas.

Ishidate undergoes a notable mental shift during his final confrontation. Initially a cold and calculating killer, his fixation on Naruto causes him to disregard direct orders from his employer, Shabadaba. In a fit of blind rage and annoyance at being commanded to focus on the prince, he inadvertently uses his petrification ability on Shabadaba, killing him. This act demonstrates his unraveling mental state, as he prioritizes his personal vendetta over his contracted duty and shows no remorse for the mistake.

His notable abilities center on a unique piece of equipment: a specialized gauntlet worn on his hand. This gauntlet possesses two distinct powers. Its primary function is petrification; the eye on the gauntlet opens upon contact, transmitting a substance that turns living flesh into stone. The extent of the petrification depends on the duration and location of the touch, with prolonged exposure leading to permanent, irreversible statues that can be easily shattered. This ability is how he neutralizes Kakashi and kills the loyalist Korega. The gauntlet's secondary ability allows him to manipulate existing stone telekinetically. He can levitate stone platforms to stand on, tear chunks from structures, and shape them into sharp projectiles to launch at his enemies. In addition to this weapon, Ishidate and his team employ an odorless gas that dulls an opponent's senses and reaction time, making their high-speed taijutsu assaults even more deadly.
