Description
Asama Sandayu is a supporting character from the first Naruto feature film. He serves as the personal assistant to the popular actress Yukie Fujikaze, though her true identity is Koyuki Kazahana, the exiled princess of the Land of Snow.

Before the events of the film, Sandayu lived in Kazahana Castle as a loyal subject of the daimyo, Sosetsu Kazahana. When Sosetsu's brother, Doto Kazahana, staged a violent revolt, he burned the castle to the ground and killed the daimyo. Sandayu managed to escape the destruction with the young princess Koyuki, and from that moment on, he dedicated his life to her care. He became her guardian and assistant during her subsequent career as an actress, patiently waiting for an opportunity to return to their homeland and reclaim her rightful throne.

Personality-wise, Sandayu is defined by his profound loyalty and unwavering obedience. This devotion was first given to the princess's father, Sosetsu, and later transferred entirely to Koyuki herself. He endures her abuse and insults without complaint, understanding the pain and trauma that drive her behavior. His primary motivation is twofold: to protect Koyuki at all costs and to avenge the death of his former master by seeing the usurper Doto defeated. He is a brave individual, fully willing to sacrifice his life for the sake of justice and the happiness of the princess he serves.

In terms of appearance, Sandayu is an older man with short grey hair, a matching beard and mustache, and small dark eyes. He typically wears small glasses and a casual outfit consisting of a baby blue shirt under a navy blue blazer. When he finally takes up arms to fight, he dons a traditional samurai uniform, which includes dark green and red armor, a red sleeveless coat tied with a white sash, and a wakizashi (short sword) with a small blue talisman hanging from it.

His role in the story is that of a catalyst. He secretly hires Team Kakashi, consisting of Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno, and their teacher Kakashi Hatake, for a mission to escort Yukie to the Land of Snow under the guise of a film shoot. He suggests this location to Yukie's movie director specifically to bring the princess back to her homeland so she can confront her past. Upon arriving, Sandayu leads a brigade of fifty samurai in a direct assault on Doto's forces. The attack is a desperate and tragic one; Doto's ninja subordinates use long-range weapons from an armored train to massacre the entire brigade. Mortally wounded, Sandayu uses his last breath to tell the weeping Koyuki not to cry for him, dying content in his final act of service.

Regarding his abilities, while he is not shown engaging in extended combat, his background as a former soldier and a member of a samurai brigade indicates he had extensive military training. He is proficient enough to wield a sword, but his most notable trait is his courage and leadership rather than any superhuman ninja skills. In the end, his loyalty and sacrifice are vindicated when Koyuki defeats Doto, becomes the new daimyo, and sees a vision of Sandayu and her father disappearing together, signifying his spirit finding peace.
