Description
Liu Maoxing is the central protagonist of the story, a thirteen-year-old boy who becomes the youngest super chef in history. He is the son of Pai, a legendary chef known as the Fairy Chef or the Magician of Sichuan, and he inherits his mother's restaurant, the Juxia Restaurant in Sichuan, after her death. Raised in a high-level culinary family environment, Liu Maoxing develops a deep passion for cooking and possesses innate talent, though he rarely cooks at the start, leading others to underestimate his abilities.

His personality is marked by a strong sense of justice, courage, and an unwavering dedication to the art of cooking. He is curious, imaginative, and determined to follow in his mother's footsteps by becoming the greatest chef in China. His primary motivation is to honor his mother's legacy and to prove himself as a worthy chef, which drives him to travel across China to learn different regional cooking styles and techniques.

In the story, Liu Maoxing's role is that of a young prodigy who challenges corrupt and arrogant chefs, defends the honor of his mother's restaurant, and ultimately strives to become a legendary chef. His journey begins when his mother's disgraced top student, Shao An, returns to claim the Juxia Restaurant. Liu Maoxing defeats Shao An in a cooking duel by recreating his mother's legendary Mapo Tofu, which uses fried soybeans to achieve a sixth taste of crispiness. Rather than immediately taking over the restaurant, he is instructed by Governor Li to travel to Guangzhou to train and hone his skills. He arrives at the Yangquan Restaurant, where he becomes a direct disciple of the vice head chef Zhou Yu, learning to refine his senses and techniques.

Key relationships include his sister, Liu Ke Lin, who supports him throughout his journey; his mentor Zhou Yu, who teaches him the importance of using all his senses in cooking; and Governor Li, who recognizes his potential. He also encounters various rivals and allies, such as Shao An, who initially opposes him but later reforms, and the Dumpling Brothers, among others. Through his travels, Liu Maoxing forms lasting friendships and earns the respect of many in the culinary world.

His development is marked by a transition from a raw, naturally gifted boy to a disciplined and skilled chef who understands the deeper principles of cooking. He learns to combine his inherited knowledge with new techniques, and he matures emotionally, learning to empathize with others and use his cooking to help and heal people. Over the course of the story, he participates in major competitions, including the once-every-four-years Chef King tournament, and takes on formidable opponents from both within China and abroad.

Liu Maoxing's notable abilities include an exceptionally keen sense of taste that allows him to instantly analyze the ingredients in any dish, as well as the ability to remember any taste he has experienced with perfect clarity. He possesses an unbridled imagination that enables him to create entirely original dishes, and he can use taste image deduction to mentally combine and test flavors before cooking. He also has a strong understanding of the scientific principles behind cooking, which he applies creatively in high-pressure situations. His signature dishes include the special Mapo Tofu with soybeans, Rising Dragon Dumplings, Catfish Seafood Noodles, and many others, often inspired by his mother's recipes or developed through his own inventive thinking.
