Description
Leon, also known by the name Li Wen, is a main character in the anime Cooking Master Boy. He is widely referred to as Leon of the Seven Stars, a title that stems from his possession of the legendary Seven-Star Knives, the finest knife set in all of China. He first appears as a member of the Dark Cooking Society, demanding a Legendary Cooking Utensil from the Yang Spring Restaurant. After a cooking battle with the protagonist, Liu Mao Xing, Leon reveals that he had betrayed and escaped the Dark Cooking Society upon realizing the true nature of the organization. He then becomes a traveling companion and close ally of Mao.

Leon’s background is marked by early prodigy and a compassionate nature. As a child, he was a cook at the Yang Spring Restaurant, where he rapidly mastered cooking techniques. He had a kind heart and disliked killing animals; when he did so, he placed a red paper talisman on the dead animal and prayed for it. His hunger for knowledge led him to leave the restaurant and travel across China. When he could find no further techniques to learn, he joined the Dark Cooking Society to acquire their forbidden cooking methods. While in the underground organization, his knife skills reached extraordinary levels, and he sought out the master forger Luo Xie to create the Seven-Star Knives. In a fit of rage after Luo Xie mentioned he could one day forge a better set, Leon stabbed the forger, causing him to fall from a cliff. This act traumatized Leon and set him on a path of redemption.

Personality-wise, Leon is initially stoic, serious, and somewhat enigmatic. He possesses a strong work ethic and a perfectionist drive, always seeking excellence in his cooking. Despite his reserved exterior, he is deeply loyal to those he cares about and willing to help when needed. His motivations are rooted in a genuine love for cooking, which he rediscovers after his battle with Mao. As the story progresses, he shifts from an antagonist to a mentor and friend, guiding Mao in his culinary journey and working alongside him to prevent the Dark Cooking Society from obtaining the Legendary Cooking Utensils.

Leon’s role in the story is multifaceted. He serves as a rival-turned-ally, a mentor figure, and a key member of Mao’s group. His expertise in knife work and seafood cuisine is central to many cooking duels. He is also the only person who legitimately possesses the Seven-Star Knives, though a duplicate set later appears. His relationship with Mao evolves from confrontation to mutual respect and friendship, and he becomes a trusted confidant. Other key relationships include his connection to the Yang Spring Restaurant, where he once worked, and his troubled past with Luo Xie and the Dark Cooking Society.

In terms of development, Leon undergoes a significant arc. He starts as a corrupted chef obsessed with being the best, then experiences guilt and trauma over his actions, and finally redeems himself by using his skills for good. His journey is one of self-forgiveness and recommitment to the pure love of cooking.

Notable abilities include his unparalleled knife skills, which allow him to prepare ingredients with precision and speed. He is a master of seafood cuisine and is highly respected for his traditional Chinese cooking style. His Seven-Star Knives are a symbol of his mastery and are considered the best knives in China. Leon is also knowledgeable about Dark Cooking Techniques, though he later rejects them in favor of honest cooking.
