Description
Rai Klein is the twin brother of Thor Klein, the protagonist of the story. At the start of the series, Rai is an eleven-year-old boy living with his brother and parents on the space colony Juno, where the family leads a comfortable life. He has silver hair and blue-gray eyes, traits that other characters, especially Zagi, find highly unusual even in a society where children's genetic traits can be manipulated. Rai is also described as slightly stouter than his twin.
Rai's life is shattered when his parents, both scientists, are murdered and unknown attackers drug the two brothers and abandon them on Chimaera, a harsh planet used as a penal colony. Rai is timid, cautious, and hesitant by nature, particularly in contrast with Thor, who is bolder, more courageous, and quicker to act. Rai's personality is shaped largely by his dependence on his brother; he relies on Thor for protection and guidance, and he would be completely lost on his own in the brutal world of Chimaera.
