Hannes Maurer

Description
Hannes Maurer is a German voice actor, dialogue director, and former actor, born in Berlin in 1983. He began his career in voice acting at the age of ten and has since become known for dubbing a wide variety of roles in animation, live-action films, and television series. Due to his youthful and often high-pitched voice, Maurer has frequently been cast to voice young male characters and protagonists in animated productions.

Maurer is perhaps best known for his long-standing role as Shinji Ikari, the protagonist of the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise. He first voiced the character in the German dubs of the original television series and films starting in 2005 and continued the role for over sixteen years, lending his voice to Shinji in the final film of the Rebuild of Evangelion series, Evangelion: 3.0+1.01: Thrice Upon a Time, in 2021. His portrayal of the troubled Eva pilot is one of his most prominent and enduring works.

Beyond Evangelion, Maurer has voiced a vast array of characters across numerous anime and animated series. In the anime series Crush Gear Turbo, he is the German voice of Kuroudo Marume, a skilled swordsman and member of the Tobita Club. In the Stitch! anime, he voices the character Kijimunaa, a small, long-haired yokai with a powerful sneeze. His extensive filmography also includes the role of Wataru Mitsuya in Brave Story, Gingka Hagane in the Beyblade: Metal Fusion films, and Roux Ltskin in The Good Witch of the West. In the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise, he has taken on multiple roles, including a young Marik Ishtar and Noah Kaiba. His work in the fantasy genre also includes the role of Wrath in the 2003 series Fullmetal Alchemist.

In addition to his work in anime, Maurer's voice is widely recognized for many other high-profile roles. He is the German voice of Steve Smith in the animated sitcom American Dad for its first ten seasons, Timmy Turner in the first nine seasons of The Fairly OddParents, and Fishlegs in the How to Train Your Dragon franchise. He also dubbed the character Near in the anime series Death Note. His talent has been recognized with a nomination for the German Synchron Award in 2009 for his performance as Ciro in the film Gomorrah.

After a career break around 2015 to travel the world, some of his ongoing series roles were recast, though he has since returned to voice acting, continuing to work on new projects.
