TV-Series
Description
Alice L. Malvin is the main female protagonist and the field leader of the Imperial Army's Section III, a unit known as Pumpkin Scissors. She holds the rank of Second Lieutenant.

Born into the Malvin family, one of the thirteen appointed noble houses under the direct command of the emperor, Alice is the third daughter and the provisional heir to the family name. Despite her noble origins, she chose to enlist in the military, a decision that goes against the wishes of her father and sisters, who believe she should adopt a more traditionally feminine role in society. She graduated from the military academy on the very day the ceasefire was announced, meaning she has no firsthand experience of active warfare. This has contributed to an idealistic view of her duties, which is often contrasted with the harsh realities of the post-war world.

Personality-wise, Alice is defined by a powerful sense of duty, honor, and justice. She is hot-tempered, reckless, and stubborn, a combination that can sometimes endanger herself and her squad. Her unwavering commitment to what is right makes her a Determinator, as she will complete her mission regardless of the obstacles. As a Wide-Eyed Idealist, she genuinely believes in the mission of war relief and social reconstruction, often clashing with the cynicism and corruption that permeate both the military and the nobility. She is also known to be unable to hold her liquor, becoming intoxicated after a single glass of wine. A peculiar trait is a physical sensation she experiences; she sometimes feels chills on the back of her neck when something significant, good or bad, is about to occur.

Alice's primary motivation is to uphold the principles of noblesse oblige and to fight against the corruption that has taken root in the post-war empire. She likens the corrupt nobility to a rotten pumpkin and views her unit, Pumpkin Scissors, as the tool to cut away that corruption, protecting the common people from injustice. She is deeply committed to her post as the leader of Section III and to the soldiers under her command.

In terms of her role in the story, Alice is the driving force behind the Pumpkin Scissors unit. She is the one who gave the unit its name and symbol. As the field leader, she leads her squad on various missions related to war relief, disaster recovery, and combating those who exploit the chaos of the post-war period.

Key relationships define much of her character. She is engaged to Lionel Taylor, a fellow noble who supports her ideals, though the engagement appears to be based more on mutual interests than romantic love. However, throughout the series, a romantic subplot develops between Alice and Randel Oland, a former soldier and the unit's strongest asset. Her relationship with her family is strained due to her military career, though her two older sisters, who are already married, worry about her and support her ideals to some extent.

Throughout the story, Alice undergoes significant development. She begins as an inexperienced and idealistic officer, but through her experiences with the harsh realities of the post-war world and by witnessing Randel Oland's past and struggles, she grows more mature. She learns to balance her rigid principles with the practical demands of the situations she faces, often with convincing from her squad members.

Regarding her notable abilities, unlike her subordinates who primarily use firearms, Alice is a skilled swordswoman. Her weapon of choice is a short-sword engraved with her family crest, which also serves as a symbol of her status as heir. On special occasions, she wields a long, double-bladed cavalry sword called the Mahne. She is an Action Girl, capable of holding her own against highly trained soldiers. Her fighting style is primarily offensive and focused on close-quarters combat. She also knows a defensive technique called the Main Gauche, taught to her by her grandfather, which appears graceful and dance-like. A key artifice in her combat ability is that she is naturally left-handed but trained to use her right hand for everyday tasks, reserving her dominant left hand for serious fighting to trick her opponents. Her keen intuition, which manifests as the chills on her neck, also serves as a valuable asset in dangerous situations.
