Description
Kotoha Isone is a sixteen-year-old high school student and a core figure within the supernatural landscape of Sakurashin Town. Originally human, she was possessed by a youkai at a very young age, an event that transformed her into a hanyou, a being that is half-human and half-youkai. This dual heritage defines much of her existence, as she must navigate the expectations and tensions of both worlds while also attending a school located outside the town’s protected boundaries.

Her personality balances a composed, intelligent, and empathetic nature with a spirited, occasionally unrestrained side. She is confident, witty, and driven by a strong sense of responsibility to protect others and mediate between humans and youkai. Though she often displays calm and practical leadership, she can become intensely enthusiastic or even dangerously overzealous when angered, such as unleashing heavy artillery during a training mishap. She wears non-prescription glasses as a style choice, is a self-confessed firearms enthusiast who once traveled to Germany solely to visit a military technology museum, and is noted by friends as an excellent singer. Her interests are not limited to weapons; she is also described as solely attracted to girls.

Her primary role in the story is that of vice-director of the Hiizumi Life Counseling Office, an agency dedicated to resolving conflicts and providing aid to both human and youkai residents of Sakurashin. In this capacity, she works closely with the office director, Akina Hiizumi, offering guidance, conducting diplomacy, and serving as a frontline combatant when threats emerge. Her efforts contribute directly to maintaining the fragile peace of the town, and she is often a key player in defusing supernatural crises.

Kotoha’s defining ability is kotodama, the power of language that allows her to manifest objects, weapons, and even large-scale artillery simply by speaking their names with precise emphasis. She can summon simple items with a single word or employ lengthier incantations for more complex or powerful conjurations. The ability also extends to animating text from books. However, her power is tied to her voice; overuse can cause temporary voice loss, and if she is silenced or muffled, she becomes unable to access her abilities. Despite this limitation, her control over kotodama makes her one of the most formidable combatants in the group, capable of calling forth everything from everyday tools to a German army field cannon.

Among her key relationships, the bond with Akina Hiizumi is characterized by professional trust and mutual reliance, though occasional disagreements occur. She shares a close, supportive camaraderie with her teammates Hime Yarizakura and Ao Nanami, and she acts as a protective mediator for the broader community. Her development arc revolves around balancing her dual identity as a student and a hanyou, refining her mastery of kotodama, and growing into the leadership role expected of her. Through these experiences, Kotoha steadily integrates her human and supernatural sides, becoming a poised and indispensable guardian of Sakurashin.
