Description
Layfon Alseif is the main protagonist of Chrome Shelled Regios. He was once a Heaven's Blade wielder, a title reserved for the twelve most capable fighters in the lance-shelled city of Glendan, where he also held the name Wolfstein. As a young child, Layfon and his friend Leerin were taken in by an elderly man named Derek, who ran an orphanage in Glendan. To help support the orphanage when Derek could no longer earn enough, Layfon began fighting in matches, eventually participating in illegal underground bouts. His actions led to his exile from Glendan and the loss of his Heaven's Blade, after which he transferred to the academic city of Zuellni hoping to leave his violent past behind.
Layfon initially appears as a nonchalant and simple-minded individual, but he is genuinely kind, caring, and helpful. He possesses a strong sense of justice and a protective nature, especially toward those he cares about. Despite his immense combat ability, he struggles with his past and the violence it involved, making him reluctant to fight. His motivations are rooted in supporting the orphanage where he grew up and protecting his new friends in Zuellni, as he seeks a life beyond fighting.
In the story, Layfon is drawn into the 17th Platoon, led by Nina Antalk, and becomes a central figure in defending Zuellni from threats. His key relationships include Leerin Marfes, his childhood friend from Glendan who encourages him to confront his past; Nina Antalk, the captain of the 17th Platoon who recognizes his skills; and his fellow platoon members Nae Oerba and others, whose camaraderie helps him adapt. Derek, his mentor, instilled lasting values in him during his childhood.
Throughout the series, Layfon experiences significant growth. He learns to balance his guilt over his past with his responsibilities in the present, particularly during the Regios War arc where his leadership and combat abilities are tested, resulting in a renewed sense of purpose.
