Mika Murakami is a supporting character in the anime Wangan Midnight, introduced during the R200CLUB arc. She is a college friend and the former girlfriend of Takayuki Kuroki, and through her work as a freelance photographer and journalist frequently contracted by car magazines, she becomes an associate of Reina Akikawa. In the years before the main storyline, Kuroki's deepening involvement in street racing and the immense time he spent tuning his car caused strain in their relationship, leading to their breakup and separation. Mika later decides to seek out Kuroki again while he is preparing to challenge the legendary Devil Z. As she observes his determination, she realizes that his unwavering persistence in wanting to be the best is his greatest trait and comes to appreciate that part of him. After Kuroki's failed race against the Devil Z, which results in his car blowing its engine, he works on repairing the vehicle with his own hands. Moved by his dedication, Mika confesses her love to Kuroki and chooses to remain by his side. Although Kuroki initially tries to push her away, he eventually comes to appreciate her steadfastness, and the two rekindle their relationship. Prior to this, Mika was once engaged to an editor of a magazine, a relationship that ultimately did not last. Her motivations are rooted in a desire to reconnect with Kuroki and to understand the passion that drives him, leading her to play a key role in his emotional development and support network within the R200CLUB and wider racing community.
