Description
Hanabusa Aidou is an aristocratic vampire and a supporting character known for his vibrant personality and significant abilities. He is the heir to the Aido family, one of the highest-ranking noble lineages among vampires, which places him in a position of considerable social standing within the vampire world. A prodigy and a genius from a young age, his future within vampire society is marked by a mix of privilege and expectation.

In terms of personal history, Aidou did not always have a close relationship with the powerful pureblood Kaname Kuran. During the funeral for Kaname's parents, a significant shift occurred, and Aidou resolved to become Kaname's most loyal protector and follower. This event became the cornerstone of his dedication, and alongside his cousin Akatsuki Kain, he is known as one of Kaname's right-hand men. Despite his deep loyalty, he is intensely curious and has been known to conduct his own research into the history of the Kuran family to uncover the secrets of what happened to Kaname's parents, sometimes investigating behind Kaname's back even when warned not to put himself in danger.

Aidou displays a complex and often contradictory personality. On the surface, he is the most socially outgoing and charismatic member of the Night Class, enjoying the attention he receives from the human girls of the Day Class, who nickname him Idol. He can appear cheerful, friendly, and prone to flirting and playing harmless pranks, for which he is sometimes physically disciplined by the stoic Kaname. However, this jovial exterior can shift rapidly, revealing a colder, more vindictive, and even cruel side when the situation demands it. This duality makes him unpredictable; he is capable of both frivolous teasing and serious, ruthless action.

His motivations are heavily centered on his admiration for Kaname Kuran, to whom he is fiercely loyal. Much of his behavior and many of his decisions are driven by a desire to serve and protect Kaname, even if his brash actions often overstep the boundaries of what Kaname tolerates. He is also motivated by a deep-seated protectiveness over his friends and allies. His relationship with the series protagonist Yuki Cross is initially strained, as he dislikes the attention Kaname gives her and struggles to show her respect. Over time, however, his relationship with Yuki evolves from petty antagonism into a form of light friendship and mutual understanding, particularly after she declares her own unwavering loyalty to Kaname, and he eventually becomes one of her protectors.

Aidou is an observant character, having been one of the first to realize that the human-looking Zero Kiryu is in fact a vampire. He kept this secret not out of loyalty to Zero, but because he saw no benefit in revealing it and does not take pleasure in exposing such secrets. His role in the story is primarily that of a supporting noble who provides combat support, comic relief, and a display of the aristocratic vampire structure. In moments of crisis, he is quick to act, such as being the first to attack the powerful vampire Rido when the academy is threatened.

His development is marked by the tragedy of his father Nagamichi Aido's death, an event that hardens him and makes his demeanor toward Kaname noticeably colder for a time. Following the major events of the series, Aidou’s path leads him toward continuing the research into the coexistence and reconciliation of humans and vampires, a project he inherits and pursues. In terms of abilities, Hanabusa Aidou possesses a formidable power that reflects his aristocratic heritage: the ability to generate and manipulate ice at will, a skill that makes him a dangerous combatant.
