Description
Miki Tsujiwaki is a sixteen-year-old student at Jyoyō Akanegaoka High School and the captain of the school’s girls’ soccer team. Her interest in soccer was sparked not by watching professional matches or following famous players but by reading a comic book about the sport, which gave her an enthusiastic but somewhat unpolished understanding of the game. Despite this, she is a determined and capable forward who leads her team with energy and conviction.
Her role in the story begins when she encounters Kyosuke Kanou, a talented but disillusioned boy who has sworn off soccer because of the pressure of living in the shadow of his older brother, the star player Seisuke Kanou. Miki recognizes Kyosuke’s potential and persuades him to become the manager of her girls’ team. Through this arrangement, she helps him rediscover his love for the sport. Once Kyosuke’s passion is rekindled, he joins the boys’ team, and Miki continues to support him from the sidelines at every game.
Miki’s personality is marked by a blend of bluntness and warmth. She does not hesitate to scold Kyosuke when he becomes frustrated or loses his composure, but her criticism comes from a place of genuine care and a desire to see him succeed. The two share a close, unconventional bond described as a “weird relationship”; they understand each other well and often bicker, but their connection is a steady source of encouragement for Kyosuke.
Aside from her interactions with Kyosuke, little is revealed about Miki’s personal life outside of school and soccer. Her motivations center on her love for the game and her instinct to bring out the best in others, particularly Kyosuke. She is not a flashy player nor a tactical genius, but her determination and passion make her an effective captain. Her development is subtle: she remains a constant, grounding presence as Kyosuke grows, and her own confidence as a player and leader is quietly reinforced through the team’s progress. Miki’s notable abilities lie in her perseverance, her knack for reading people, and her ability to inspire action in those around her.
