Description
Hikaru Ishibashi is a character from the anime and manga Skip Beat!, first appearing in ACT.020 of the manga. He is a twenty-one-year-old male who works as a musician and variety show host. Hikaru serves as the leader of the popular three-man band and variety show group called Bridge Rock. Though all members share the same last name, they are not actually siblings; the group’s name is derived from the Japanese words for rock and bridge. Physically, Hikaru is the shortest member of Bridge Rock, despite being the oldest, and he is one year older than the prominent actor Ren Tsuruga.

In terms of personality, Hikaru is generally portrayed as a nice and funny individual. However, he is also extremely shy, particularly around Kyoko Mogami, the series' protagonist. He finds it very difficult to compliment her on her beauty, especially when she is in character makeup or specific roles. This shyness often leads to humorous moments, such as when he hesitates for an entire morning to tell Kyoko she looked good on a television special, while his bandmates had no such trouble.

Hikaru’s primary motivation and recurring gag in the story is his romantic interest in Kyoko. He repeatedly asks her on dates, but she never accepts, as she remains oblivious to his intentions and often interprets his offers as invitations for the whole group to go out as friends. When he is unknowingly turned down, he frequently falls into humorous emotional slumps.

In the story's plot, Hikaru and Bridge Rock become significant when Kyoko is assigned to work with them as the fourth regular member of their variety show, Yappa Kimagure Rock, where she performs as the chicken mascot named Bo. In this capacity, he interacts with her frequently. During the Natsu arc, when Kyoko is pushed down a flight of stairs, Hikaru is present and tries to catch her to break her fall. He is concerned for her injuries, and becomes shocked and flustered when Kyoko briefly transforms into her intense character Natsu, who makes a secret between them. During this event, he offers to help identify her assailant from a note found at the scene. Hikaru also shows a more philosophical side, once discussing with Kyoko how the entertainment industry can be frightening when a hit role becomes a disadvantage for an actor's career.

Hikaru’s key relationships include his bandmates, Shinichi and Yuusei, who are often called the Ishibashi brothers despite not being related. His most notable relationship is with Kyoko, where his one-sided crush and her obliviousness create a long-running source of comic relief. His development primarily involves his failed attempts to express his feelings and his growing admiration for Kyoko's acting abilities, such as when he is left speechless by her performance as Natsu. A notable ability of Hikaru, tied to his role on the variety show, is his musical talent as the leader of Bridge Rock.
