Description
Pierrot Bolneze, also known as Bolneze the Clown, is a supporting character in Yakitate!! Japan who appears primarily as a judge during the Monaco Cup bread competition. He is a twenty-two-year-old world-class clown with naturally white hair and blue eyes, and his occupation explains his consistently unusual attire, which stems from his earlier years as a professional performer with the Quedam Circus.
His public identity as a clown masks a more significant origin. Pierrot once believed that his parents had abandoned him at the circus as an infant, and he trained to become a world-class clown specifically so that they might see him and find him. The truth is different. He is actually Prince Leol of Monaco and the heir to the throne, though he remains unaware of this for much of the story. In keeping with a Monaco tradition, he was given to ordinary foster parents to be raised away from the royal palace. Those foster parents ran away with the money they had been paid, leaving the young Pierrot behind. After the couple later died, Pierrot was mistakenly pronounced dead, but he had in fact ended up in the Quedam Circus. His royal lineage is eventually revealed during the final of the second Monaco Cup, when a loss of blood exposes that he carries the ultra-rare Bombay blood type, a trait shared by the King of Monaco.
