Description
Mosquito is an ancient being who has served as the devoted butler and personal bodyguard of the witch Arachne Gorgon for more than eight hundred years. He occupies a high-ranking position within the criminal organization Arachnophobia, acting as one of its top executives and using his strategic mind to expand the group’s influence during his master’s prolonged absence. In his default appearance, he is a short, elderly man with gray hair, red eyes, and a long, pointed nose reminiscent of a mosquito’s proboscis, which he uses to pierce opponents and drain their blood. He carries himself with an aristocratic demeanor and is fiercely loyal to Arachne, treating her with the utmost reverence and dedicating himself entirely to her goals and Arachnophobia’s agenda.
Mosquito’s personality is marked by a sense of honor that occasionally surfaces even in battle. During a confrontation with the Shibusen students Maka Albarn, Black Star, and Death the Kid, he allowed them to withdraw because their time limit was running out and they had impressed him with their abilities. He is cunning and capable, but his dedication to his mistress overshadows any personal ambition. Despite his advanced age, he possesses powerful combat instincts and a willingness to fight his hardest when the situation demands it.
His most notable ability is the power to regress his body to earlier, more powerful states by drawing on high-grade blood. In his one-hundred-year form, his upper torso swells into a massive, ape-like physique, greatly increasing his strength and defense. In his two-hundred-year form, his limbs and nose elongate into a streamlined, feline shape, granting him remarkable speed and evasiveness. In his four-hundred-year form, he becomes a young man with a slender build; his soul wavelength expands enormously, and he can reconstruct his body from bat-shaped darkness, unleashing devastating attacks in a swarm-like manner. An eight-hundred-year form is mentioned but never shown, suggesting even greater latent power.
Mosquito’s offensive techniques center on his elongated nose. The Police Stringer involves extending the nose and spinning his body to drill into an opponent, while the Three Piece Police Stringer delivers three rapid strikes in succession. His ultimate technique, Darkness Discord, places a pentacle beneath the target before splitting into eight thousand bats that entrap the victim and bombard them with destructive ultrasonic waves. These abilities, combined with his centuries of experience, mark him as one of Arachnophobia’s most formidable enforcers.
Throughout the story, Mosquito serves as a major antagonist during the assault on Baba Yaga Castle, directly confronting the DWMA teams. His loyalty is absolute, and he fights without hesitation to protect Arachne and further her plans. He shows no significant personal development or change in allegiance, remaining a steadfast servant until his eventual defeat. His relationships beyond Arachne are primarily professional, commanding respect and fear from other Arachnophobia members, while engaging in direct combat with characters such as Death the Kid. In the manga continuity, his role differs somewhat from the anime, but his core traits as a loyal, ancient, and shape-shifting butler remain consistent.
