Giorgio Lopez was an Italian voice actor and dubbing director, widely recognized for his extensive contributions to the Italian versions of numerous animated and live-action productions. Born in Naples on February 16, 1947, he cultivated a deep appreciation for the performing arts, graduating from the National Academy of Dramatic Arts Silvio D'Amico in Rome in 1969 and later earning a degree in Literature from Sapienza University of Rome. His career spanned over five decades, during which he became a prominent figure in Italian dubbing, known for his versatile vocal talents and his work as a dialogue adapter and dubbing director.

Lopez's voice became familiar to Italian audiences through his long-term association with several major international actors. He was the primary Italian voice for Danny DeVito, John Cleese, and Pat Morita, and following the death of Ferruccio Amendola in 2001, he also became the regular voice for Dustin Hoffman. His dubbing repertoire extended to actors such as John Hurt, Ian Holm, and Bob Hoskins. In addition to live-action dubbing, Lopez lent his voice to a vast array of animated characters, including Scrooge McDuck from 1996 to 2020, King Harold in the Shrek film series, and numerous characters in Futurama and The Simpsons, for which he also directed the Italian dubbing and adapted dialogues.

Within the realm of anime, Giorgio Lopez was a prolific voice actor, contributing to the Italian-language versions of many series and films. He voiced Professor Shikishima in the OVA series Getter Robo: Armageddon, also known as Getter Robot: The Last Day. He played the role of Kosuke Utsugi in the anime adaptation of Demon Lord Dante. Lopez also voiced the antagonist Buaku in the original Dominion Tank Police OVA series. His other notable anime roles include Platone in Alexander: The Movie, Jigo in Princess Mononoke, Dr. Sid in Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Heihachi Marunami in Blue Submarine No. 6, Dr. Briefs in Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F', and Mosquito in Soul Eater. He also took on characters in series such as Cowboy Bebop, GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka, Trigun, and Harlock Saga, among many others.

Throughout his career, Giorgio Lopez's work was recognized with industry awards. In July 2009, he won a Leggio d'oro award for his direction of the dubbing for the film Houdini - L'ultimo mago, and in 2015, he received a career achievement award at the festival of voice actors. Giorgio Lopez passed away in Rome on August 10, 2021, at the age of 74, leaving behind a significant legacy in the world of Italian dubbing, a legacy carried on by his sons, Gabriele and Andrea, who are also voice actors.
