Description
Patricia Thompson, usually called Patty, is a character from the anime and manga series Soul Eater. She is the younger sister of Elizabeth Thompson, often called Liz, and the two together form the Demon Twin Guns wielded by the meister Death the Kid. As a demon weapon, Patty can transform into a handgun, and when paired with Liz, the sisters become Death the Kid's signature twin pistols in combat.
Patty and Liz were abandoned by their mother on the streets of Brooklyn, New York. Growing up poor and with only each other to rely on, the sisters turned to stealing to survive and became known as criminals nicknamed the Brooklyn Devils. Their harsh upbringing made them self-centered and distrustful of others, as they cared only for one another. When Death the Kid encountered them, rather than punishing them, he offered them a chance at a better life and brought them to the Death Weapon Meister Academy to serve as his personal weapons. Over time, they came to respect and trust him deeply.
Patty's personality is defined by her childish and carefree nature. She speaks in a playful, babyish manner, pronouncing words like sorry as sowwy, and she throws tantrums when things do not go her way, such as when she becomes overheated in the desert. She tends to view life as a game and often seems naive and simple-minded, not taking serious matters to heart. She enjoys the drama caused by Kid's obsessive perfectionism and frequently teases him, though she also cheers him up when he becomes hard on himself. Despite her airheaded exterior, she is not unintelligent. She is an instinctive fighter with sharp reflexes, and she can reveal a surprisingly perceptive side. Above all, she is fiercely loyal to her sister and to Death the Kid, and she becomes serious when someone she cares about is threatened.
Patty's primary motivation is to have fun and enjoy her time with the people she loves. She also wants to support her sister and Kid in their mission to collect evil human souls and oppose the threats that endanger the world. Her cheerful approach to life carries over into battle, where she finds genuine excitement in fighting.
In the story, Patty is a major supporting character and a member of Death the Kid's team, later joining the elite group known as Spartoi. She takes part in major battles against witches, the Kishin, and enemy organizations such as Arachnophobia, fighting alongside Kid and Liz against powerful foes. Her lighthearted attitude contrasts sharply with the gravity of these conflicts, and through these experiences she gradually comes to understand the risks of being a demon weapon and the meaning of collecting souls for the greater good.
Her strongest relationship is with her sister Liz. The two share a deep bond forged by their difficult past, and they depend on each other completely in battle and in daily life. Liz often acts as the responsible one who tries to rein in Patty's wild behavior, while Patty loves and admires her sister in return. With Death the Kid, Patty has a loyal and affectionate partnership. She and Liz provide balance to Kid's rigid perfectionism, and Kid cherishes them despite the stress they cause him. Patty is also friendly and playful with the other main characters, teasing Black Star and getting along easily with the rest of the group.
Throughout the series, Patty shows development in subtle ways. She is introduced as a purely whimsical figure, but as she witnesses serious battles and the dangers facing her friends, she gains a deeper awareness of the world around her while still maintaining her upbeat spirit. Her growth is most noticeable during the conflicts involving Arachnophobia and the larger threats to the academy.
As a demon weapon, Patty can transform into a pistol, and together with Liz she forms a pair of twin handguns used by Death the Kid. Their coordinated attacks are powerful, and the guns have the unique ability to collect the souls of defeated enemies in their chambers. Patty's soul wavelength is wild and chaotic, which makes her an unusual but highly effective weapon. In combat she moves unpredictably, making it difficult for enemies to read her, and she possesses surprising physical strength and speed for someone who appears so relaxed.
In appearance, Patty is a young girl with blonde hair, often styled in pigtails or braids, and large, cheerful eyes. Her youthful and colorful look, which sometimes includes a cowboy hat, is designed to contrast with her older sister's more mature style, and it reflects her playful and energetic personality.
