Description
Cécile Croomy is a skilled engineer and officer in the Britannian military, serving as a key member of the team that developed the advanced seventh-generation Knightmare Frame, the Lancelot. She holds the rank of Lieutenant and works as an assistant to Earl Lloyd Asplund within the Advanced Special Envoy Engineering Corps, also known as the "Special派遣". Extremely capable in her own right, she designed the Energy Wing system later used on both the Guren Seiten and the Lancelot Albion. Before joining Lloyd's team, she studied at the Imperial Colchester Institute.
Her personality is characterized by deep compassion and warmth, which contrasts with her superior's emotionally detached and eccentric demeanor. She is one of the few people who can effectively temper Lloyd’s more insensitive and thoughtless comments, sometimes scolding him or correcting his behavior. This quality makes her the moral counterweight to Lloyd's single-minded scientific curiosity. She forms a close friendship with Suzaku Kururugi, the pilot of the Lancelot, and is often seen offering him personal support and helping him with his academic work. Her feelings for Suzaku appear to go beyond mere friendship; she confides in C.C. that she loves him, reflecting a deep personal care for his well-being.
Within the story, her primary role is as the Lancelot's main technician and combat liaison officer, responsible for its maintenance and for supporting Suzaku during missions. She is also a capable Knightmare Frame pilot herself, demonstrating her skill by piloting a customized Sutherland, equipped with parts from the Lancelot, to single-handedly fend off an attack on the Ashford Academy during the Black Rebellion and to rescue Suzaku when his mech was disabled. Her motivations are rooted in a desire for a strong and stable Britannia, though she is not without conscience. This internal conflict leads her to participate in the development of weapons of war while simultaneously caring deeply for the individuals who must use them.
Cécile undergoes a significant evolution in her loyalties as the series progresses. While she initially serves the established Britannian Empire, she ultimately becomes a trusted member of Lelouch vi Britannia's inner circle after he ascends to the throne. Acknowledging Lelouch as the new emperor, she willingly assists with the Zero Requiem, the grand, secret plan designed to reshape the world. After the plan is fulfilled and Lelouch is gone, she chooses to leave military service behind. Years later, she becomes the chief director of the Britannia Memorial Museum, a position that allows her to help preserve the history of the tumultuous era she helped shape. In reflecting on this period, she privately refers to it as a "glorious era" defined by individuals who bore the weight of the world's sins, a perspective born from her unique position as a direct witness to its events.
Apart from her engineering and piloting abilities, Cécile is notably a terrible cook. Her culinary experiments, such as rice balls mixed with blueberry jam or sandwiches made with ginger, sugar, and wasabi, are a recurring point of humor, though no one around her is willing to point out how inedible they are.
