Description
Hajime Amamori is a central character in Queen Millennia, portrayed as a young junior high school student whose life is forever altered by a sudden tragedy. He is the nephew of a professional astronomer who works at the Tsukuba Observatory, and following a devastating accident that takes the lives of his parents, Hajime goes to live with and work alongside his uncle.

In terms of appearance, Hajime has the characteristic look common to many young protagonists designed by the series creator, featuring an oval-shaped head and a full head of wavy brown hair that falls to his ears. He is most often seen wearing a standard black gakuran, the traditional Japanese school uniform for boys, which includes a jacket, pants, and a matching cap.

Hajime is defined by a serious and kindhearted nature. He nurtures a strong fascination with space and the universe, even if this interest does not always translate into outstanding academic performance at school. His motivation is rooted in the tragic loss of his parents. Initially, driven by grief and anger, he seeks revenge against the Millennial Thieves, whom he believes are responsible for their deaths. This quest for vengeance is a primary force in his early actions. However, as the story progresses and he learns more about the cosmic forces at play, he abandons the idea of holding a grudge, realizing it is fruitless, and shifts his focus toward the larger, more immediate threat facing Earth.

His role in the story is that of a protagonist who acts as a bridge between the human world and the extraordinary events unfolding. He is a friend and later a crucial ally to Yayoi Yukino, his uncle's enigmatic young assistant. Although he initially develops a crush on her, his feelings deepen into a strong, trusting partnership once he discovers her true identity as the Millennial Queen, a being from the approaching planet La Metal. Rather than turning against her upon learning of her extraterrestrial origins and her connection to La Metal's impending arrival, Hajime chooses to look past her mission and decides to help her stop the invasion and save humanity.

Hajime’s key relationships profoundly shape his character arc. His bond with his uncle, the professor, is a close one, built on a shared passion for astronomy and the mysteries of the cosmos, providing him with a home and purpose after being orphaned. His relationship with Yayoi evolves from innocent affection to a deep, heartfelt partnership in the face of apocalyptic danger. A pivotal relationship is with Selen, the leader of the Millennial Thieves. Hajime initially hates Selen, believing her group murdered his parents. However, he learns the truth: Selen and her subordinates had actually tried to save Hajime's parents during an attack by La Metal's loyalists but were unsuccessful. With this revelation, and upon learning that Selen is Yayoi's sister, Hajime’s hatred dissolves, and he accepts her help in the conflict, demonstrating his capacity for forgiveness.

Throughout the series, Hajime undergoes significant development, growing from an impulsive, grief-stricken boy into a determined and courageous young leader. He faces apocalyptic scenarios, such as traveling through a meteor-ravaged Tokyo to rescue Yayoi, and evolves to take calculated action, even collaborating with allies to retrofit historical military technology, like a Zero fighter, into weapons against an alien invasion. His development culminates in a confrontation with Larela, the ruler of La Metal, where he rejects tyranny and brokers a fragile peace between Earth and the empire, solidifying his transformation from a traumatized orphan into a diplomat and bridge-builder.

Initially, Hajime is presented as an average student with no special skills. However, as the conflict with La Metal intensifies, he discovers hidden talents, including the ability to pilot a helicopter. In the manga version of the story, he suffers critical injuries during a battle. To save his life, Yayoi and an ally provide him with cybernetic augmentations. These enhancements greatly increase his intelligence, hand-eye coordination, and piloting skills, allowing him to master advanced spacecraft with very little practice or training.
