Description
Elliot is the name used for the character Pegasus in some adaptations of Sailor Moon SuperS. This magical being is more widely known by his true identity as Helios, the guardian of the Golden Crystal and the high priest of Elysion, the sacred land that exists within Earth’s dreams. His role in the story is driven by a desperate need to protect the world from the ambitions of Queen Nehelenia and the Dead Moon Circus.

The character’s background begins before the events of the series. As the priest of Elysion, Helios is the sworn guardian of the Golden Crystal, a powerful object that draws its strength from the beautiful dreams of people on Earth. He is also a faithful servant of King Endymion, the future ruler of Earth. When the evil Queen Nehelenia attempts to claim the Golden Crystal for herself, she successfully captures Helios’s physical body and imprisons him. To keep the crystal safe and continue his search for a pure heart capable of activating its full power, Helios projects his spirit into the dream realm, taking on the form of a white, winged horse known as Pegasus. The golden horn on Pegasus’s forehead is in fact the powerful Golden Crystal itself.

In terms of personality, Elliot, as Pegasus, is portrayed as noble, gentle, and somewhat mysterious. He is deeply dedicated to his duty of protecting dreams and the Golden Crystal, which gives him a serious and burdened demeanor. Despite his mission’s gravity, he is kind and caring, particularly towards the young heroine Rini, also known as Sailor Chibi Moon. He must keep his true identity and the nature of his mission a secret for much of the story to protect both himself and the human whose dreams he inhabits, which adds to his enigmatic presence.

His primary motivation throughout SuperS is twofold: to prevent the Golden Crystal from falling into the hands of Nehelenia and her minions, and to find the one individual whose pure and beautiful dream can harness the crystal’s power to defeat the Dead Moon Circus and save the world. To this end, Ellio—as Pegasus—selects Rini’s dreams as his refuge, recognizing the exceptional purity and strength of her dream light. He plays a pivotal role in the story by empowering the Sailor Guardians. He grants Rini the Crystal Carillon, a bell that allows her to summon him with a cry of Twinkle Yell, and gives Sailor Moon the Moon Kaleido Scope. Once summoned, Pegasus provides the power necessary for the Sailor Guardians to transform into their Super forms and perform their most powerful attacks, such as Moon Gorgeous Meditation, to defeat the Lemures monsters sent by the Dead Moon Circus.

The most significant relationship in the character’s arc is with Rini. Their bond develops from a mysterious and dependent connection, where Pegasus needs her dreams for refuge, into a deep, trusting, and romantic friendship. Rini’s unwavering belief in him is crucial to the plot; she refuses to accept his apparent death, reviving him with the power of her Pink Moon Crystal. This act demonstrates her pure heart, ultimately revealing her as the maiden from Helios’s vision who can unleash the Golden Crystal’s full potential. He also has a connection to Mamoru, also known as Prince Endymion, as Helios is the guardian priest of Elysion, which is intrinsically linked to the Earth’s prince.

Throughout the series, the character undergoes a clear development, transitioning from a hidden, secretive entity to a revealed and active hero. He begins as an unseen voice and a fleeting illusion, capable of manifesting in the real world for only short periods. As the story progresses and the threat intensifies, he becomes more directly involved in battles. The climax of his development occurs when the truth is unveiled: the winged horse is not a separate magical creature but the imprisoned priest Helios. After Nehelenia is defeated and the day is saved, Helios returns to his Elysion, but not before sharing a tender farewell with Rini, implying that their connection will endure and that he will continue to visit her in her dreams.

As a notable ability, Elliot possesses several magical powers. He can transform from his humanoid form as Helios into the winged horse Pegasus. In his Pegasus form, he can fly great distances and phase through physical objects, as he is essentially an illusion when outside of a dream. His primary power is his connection to dreams, which allows him to enter the dreams of others. Through the Golden Crystal in his horn, he can grant immense power to the Sailor Guardians, enabling their transformations and enhancing their attacks. Furthermore, as a priest connected to the Earth, he can sense when the planet is in great danger.
