Description
Momoka Hanakomachi is a supporting character in the anime Daa! Daa! Daa!, also known as UFO Baby. She is the three-year-old cousin of Christine Hanakomachi, a wealthy classmate of the main protagonists. Momoka is a small child with short brown hair and red eyes, and she is frequently seen riding her tiny tricycle, often navigating long distances to visit the Saionji household.

Her personality is a blend of precocious independence and childish innocence. She is notably mature for her age in certain practical matters, demonstrating the ability to run small errands on her own and even scolding adults for failing to properly sort their trash. However, she also retains a strong sense of childlike wonder, believing in figures like Santa Claus. Momoka possesses a bold and sassy streak, but she is not malicious.

Her primary motivation is her deep and serious affection for Ruu, the alien baby living with Miyu and Kanata. She declares Ruu to be her boyfriend and speaks openly about her desire to marry him. This earnest romantic attachment drives much of her interaction with the main cast. She also develops a seemingly contradictory attitude toward Miyu. She has a habit of calling Miyu oba-chan or madam, terms that imply Miyu is an old woman or grandmother, a teasing insult that consistently irritates the older girl. Despite this teasing, she shows affection for Kanata, referring to him as Kanata onii-chan and admitting she finds him cute.

Momoka’s role in the story is that of a recurring supporting character who introduces additional comedic and heartwarming situations. Her boldness often puts her at odds with the older characters, especially Miyu, but her innocent devotion to Ruu also creates tender moments. She becomes a confidante to the main characters after a key event in the episode Momoka’s Passport, where she witnesses Ruu using his powers to fly and thereby learns the secret of the two aliens living in the Saionji home. This knowledge gives her a unique position within the group, and she keeps the secret.

Over the course of the series, Momoka’s development is subtle but evident. She grows from a somewhat distant and teasing relative to a more integrated and trusted member of the household circle. She continues to display her characteristic mix of bossy precociousness and adorable childishness, but her bond with Ruu and the others deepens. In the original story, she is shown to grow up into a bright and sociable young woman who maintains her outgoing nature.

Momoka does not possess any supernatural abilities. Her notable skill is her remarkable determination, particularly visible in her ability to ride her tricycle up the long, steep hill leading to the Saionji temple, a feat that surprises even the older characters. Her most defining ability is her outspokenness and her refusal to be treated like a helpless child, allowing her to navigate the adult world with surprising confidence.
