TV-Series
Description
Shiki Misaki enters the Reapers' Game as a deceased player seeking revival, partnered with Neku Sakuraba during his first week. Her entry fee costs her true physical appearance, forcing her to manifest in the Underground resembling her best friend Eri, complete with long red hair and Eri's distinctive fashion: a brown newsboy cap, layered tops, olive-green miniskirt, and knee-high boots. Her natural appearance features short brown hair, brown eyes, and glasses, typically dressed in a green cardigan over a beige dress with black leggings and sneakers. By the events of NEO: The World Ends with You, her style evolves to include thicker-rimmed glasses, a puzzle-patterned one-piece shirt, and a signature Mr. Mew purse.

Shiki initially presents an upbeat and assertive demeanor, masking deep-seated insecurities and self-loathing. She harbors significant jealousy toward Eri, perceiving her as more talented, attractive, and socially adept. This envy stems from intense feelings of inferiority about her own appearance, design skills, and personality. Despite her cheerful facade, she grapples with profound self-doubt, believing herself unremarkable and incapable of achieving her dream as a fashion designer. Her compassionate nature drives her to help others, like resolving conflicts among strangers to prevent Noise manifestations. She demonstrates loyalty and forgiveness, notably pardoning Neku after he attempts to erase her under Reaper manipulation. However, she can be blunt and intrusive, often prioritizing her perceptions of others' needs over their boundaries, such as forcibly adjusting Neku's clothing.

Shiki's character development focuses on self-acceptance. After confronting her despair and nearly surrendering to erasure, Neku's encouragement and overhearing Eri's genuine grief over her absence help Shiki recognize her own worth. She learns to embrace her identity, vowing to stop comparing herself to others. This growth culminates in her revival and eventual co-founding of the popular Shibuya fashion brand Gatto Nero with Eri. Her journey continues through the Reapers' Game events, where she aids Neku and others in defeating antagonists like Game Master Higashizawa and Conductor Kitaniji. In later appearances, she remains connected to Shibuya's supernatural elements, assisting in restoring souls trapped in objects.

In combat, Shiki wields pins granting psychic abilities, primarily channeled through her handmade plush doll, Mr. Mew. This allows Mr. Mew to attack autonomously and execute fusion techniques with Neku, such as enlarging into a massive combat form. Her strategic observations and problem-solving skills aid mission progression, though she relies entirely on pins for defense. Post-revival, her design skills become foundational to Gatto Nero's success.

In the anime adaptation, Shiki plays a more proactive role, deducing Neku's amnesia stems from his entry fee and resolving emotional conflicts independently. Her separation from Neku at the week's end also depicts greater anguish as she becomes his subsequent entry fee.
