Description
Agni, originally named Arshad Satyendra Iyer, was born on August 24, 1858, in India into a Brahmin priest family, the highest social class in the caste system. Disillusioned by his father’s corruption and worldly desires, he lost faith in divine power and fell into a life of violence and crime, eventually being sentenced to death by hanging. Moments before his execution, Prince Soma Asman Kadar of Bengal arrived, cut off Arshad’s hair, declared him reborn, and gave him the new name Agni, saving his life. From that moment, Agni devoted his entire existence to Soma, becoming his butler with absolute loyalty and gratitude.

Agni stands tall with slate-gray eyes and cropped white hair threaded with twin beaded strands. He dresses in a muted green sherwani and turban, with silver hoops at his ears and a crimson bindi on his forehead. His right hand is always kept wrapped in bandages and is known as the Right Hand of God, blessed with phenomenal power that grants him superhuman strength and precision. He is a master of an ancient Indian martial art that allows him to paralyze or kill an opponent by striking vital pressure points. His combat skills are so formidable that his first fencing match with Sebastian Michaelis ended in a draw, and Sebastian acknowledged that Agni’s strength surpassed that of five or ten ordinary men. Beyond combat, Agni’s true gift is cooking, especially curry, using hundreds of spices and perfect technique to create dishes that impressed even Queen Victoria.

Personality wise, Agni embodies kindness, patience, and compassion. He is exceptionally humble and works to make others feel welcome and capable, calmly identifying strengths and giving gentle instructions. He never displays anger or hostility, instead showing warmth to everyone. When deeply distressed, his emotions become so overwhelming that he cries tears of blood. He dislikes what he calls the turbulent mundane life, preferring activities like cooking, reading, meditating, and praying. Despite his gentle demeanor, he possesses fierce resolve when it comes to protecting Soma.

Agni accompanies Prince Soma to England in search of their former nanny. Initially appearing as a potential antagonist, he is ultimately forgiven by Soma and becomes a close ally to Ciel Phantomhive’s household. His relationship with Soma is one of pure love, gratitude, and service, acting as a moral compass and steadying influence. His relationship with Sebastian is unique; Agni openly considers the demon his friend, a concept that astonishes Sebastian.

Agni dies while protecting Soma from an attacker. Realizing he could not win, he threw Soma into a secure room and locked the door, then held the doorknob from the outside, preventing the assailant from entering even as he was stabbed multiple times in the back. He was found dead with seven daggers in his back, still clutching the doorknob. In his final moments, he expressed that serving Soma had made him happy. Sebastian Michaelis called Agni the model of a butler, honoring his unwavering commitment to putting his master’s safety and happiness above all else.
