Description
Mme Angelina Red, also known as Angelina Dalles or Madam Red, is the younger sister of Rachel Phantomhive and the aunt of Ciel Phantomhive. She is a widow, having married the late Baron Barnett, and she lives alone. She is known in high society as Madam Red because of her distinctive red hair, red eyes, and preference for red clothing, which she embraced after Vincent Phantomhive, Ciel’s father, complimented her hair—something she had previously disliked.

Angelina originally fell in love with Vincent, but he married her sister Rachel. Although she was hurt, she tried not to resent her sister’s happiness and enjoyed time with the Phantomhive family. She later married Baron Barnett, who accepted her lingering feelings for Vincent. She became pregnant, but a carriage accident killed her husband and caused a miscarriage. The injuries left her unable to have children. After her recovery, she worked as a doctor at the Royal London Hospital, a rare profession for a woman in Victorian England, and she mostly treated female and child patients.

Her grief and rage over losing her husband, child, sister, and the man she loved, compounded by her inability to bear children, drove her to become Jack the Ripper alongside the grim reaper Grelle Sutcliff, who posed as her butler. Together they murdered women who sought abortions, as Angelina came to despise those who did not appreciate their ability to have children. Outwardly, she maintained a flamboyant, outgoing, and flirtatious personality, often teasing Ciel and others, but she hid her deep trauma and unhinged state.

She considered Ciel like her own son and watched over him after his parents’ death. When Ciel discovered her true identity and confronted her, she was unable to kill him because she saw her sister’s face in his. Grelle then killed her, saying she was no longer fit to wear red. She was given a quiet funeral, and the truth about the murders was covered up.

Her role in the story is that of a major antagonist in the Jack the Ripper arc, driven by a tragic backstory that transforms a loving aunt into a serial killer. Her abilities include her medical skills, which she used in her crimes, and her social influence as a popular noblewoman. Her key relationships are with Ciel, whom she genuinely loved; Grelle, her accomplice; and the memory of her sister and Vincent, whose loss fueled her actions. Over the course of the narrative, she shifts from a lively socialite to a grief-stricken murderer, ultimately meeting her end at the hands of her own ally.
