Description
Masahiko Yumeno is a supporting character in the anime Onegai My Melody. He is the father of Uta Yumeno and her sisters Kanade and Koto. He works as a travelogue writer, a job that keeps him away from home for long periods, requiring Kanade to take charge of the household in his absence. He is a hard-working parent who dedicates himself to providing for his family.
Masahiko’s personality is marked by a cheerful and playful side. He loves making jokes and puns, often to the dismay of his daughters, who find his humor embarrassing. Despite his lighthearted nature, he is a caring and protective father. His motivations center on supporting his family and ensuring their well-being.
In the story, Masahiko initially has no knowledge of My Melody, the magical rabbit from Mariland who becomes his daughter Uta’s companion. Whenever he approaches the kitchen or other rooms where Uta is with My Melody, she hurriedly hides the rabbit and pretends My Melody is a stuffed animal. He once trembled in shock after seeing My Melody serving him coffee. On one occasion, the antagonist Kuromi casts a spell on him that transforms him into the fastest man on earth. Eventually, after My Melody’s brother and grandfather free him from the spell, he befriends My Melody and accepts her presence in the household.
Masahiko’s relationships are central to his character. He has a warm bond with his daughters, especially Uta, though his sense of humor often tests their patience. When he discovers that Uta is dating Kogure in the series Sukkiri, his initial reaction is one of fury, but he later comes to accept the relationship. His development involves growing from a somewhat oblivious and overprotective father into a more understanding and open-minded parent who embraces the magical elements that have entered his family’s life.
Masahiko does not possess any inherent supernatural abilities. The only notable ability he displays is the temporary super speed granted by Kuromi’s spell. His strengths lie in his dedication to his work and family, his resilience in adapting to extraordinary circumstances, and his good-natured attempts to bring levity to daily life.
