Description
Luca Angeloni is a supporting character in the anime Macross Frontier. He is a high school student enrolled in the spaceflight department of Mihoshi Academy, where he is a junior classmate and self-described kohai to Alto Saotome and Michael Blanc. Despite his youth, Luca is a thoughtful and mature young man, though he frequently becomes flustered when his seniors tease him. He is a genius with computers and military electronic equipment, and he channels this talent as a special adviser in technological development for LAI Corporation, the large research institute managed by his parents. As the heir to LAI, Luca has access to advanced and prototype technologies, and he contributes to the development of the VF-25 Messiah variable fighter and the Super Fold Booster.

Luca serves as a variable fighter pilot in the S.M.S. Skull Squadron, flying a green RVF-25 reconnaissance variant. His primary combat role is electronic warfare and information analysis, and he operates three pet Ghost QF-4000 drones that he has named Simon, John, and Peter, which respond to his verbal commands; he also names his EX-Gear Samson. His hobby is tinkering with mecha, reflecting his deep technical aptitude.

In terms of personal motivations, Luca is strongly attached to his classmate Nanase Matsuura, though he becomes shy and flustered around her. After Nanase is injured during a Vajra attack on the Macross Frontier fleet, and following the death of Michael Blanc, Luca makes the decision to join the New UN Spacy in order to protect her. He also provides LAI-developed technology to the New UN Spacy, and on occasion negotiates directly with high-ranking political figures such as Leon Mishima. During the final battle against the Vajra and the Macross Galaxy forces, he removes the limiters on his Ghost drones to counter the enemy V-9 Ghost units.

Luca's character develops from a cheerful and somewhat insecure student into a more determined and responsible pilot and engineer. His intellect, loyalty to his friends, and willingness to act decisively in a crisis define his role as a key supporting member of the cast.
