Description
Jorgito Kato, whose original Japanese name is Hashizo Kato, is a young boy who plays a significant role in the story of Ai Shite Knight. His real name is actually Hideki, but he was given the nickname Hashizo by his older brother, Go Kato, after coming to live with him. The circumstances of his living situation are rooted in tragedy, as he and Go are half-brothers. Hashizo is the son of their father and his mistress, and after both parents died in a car accident, a still very young Go decided to take in and raise his baby half-brother. From that point on, the two have lived together, forming a unique family unit.
In terms of personality, Jorgito is depicted as an unusually responsible and mature little boy. Because his older brother is an aspiring rock musician working to build a career, Jorgito often spends a great deal of time on his own, with his primary companion being his grumpy but deeply loyal pet cat, Juliano. He is not a whiny or needy child but instead appears to have adapted to the circumstances of his life, demonstrating an independent streak. His primary motivation seems to be a quiet wish for connection and stability, which begins to be fulfilled when he stumbles into the life of the main heroine, Yaeko "Yakko" Mitamura.
Jorgito’s main role in the narrative is as the emotional catalyst that brings the two main characters together. His initial meeting with Yakko leads to her encountering his brother Go, setting the entire romance of the series in motion. He develops a very strong attachment to Yakko after meeting her, and the Mitamura family's okonomiyaki restaurant, Mambo, effectively becomes his second home. He does not just accept Yakko into his and Go's lives; he actively embraces her presence, forming a bond that is crucial for the development of the main romantic plot.
His key relationships are central to understanding his character. The most important is with his brother, Go. Go serves as both his guardian and his only remaining family, and the responsibility of caring for Jorgito adds a layer of depth to Go's otherwise cocky and playboy-ish demeanor. Jorgito’s other critical relationship is with his cat, Juliano. The intelligent and faithful cat is presented as his best friend and constant companion, largely due to the many hours Jorgito spends alone while Go is working on his music. This relationship softens the harder edges of the story's rock-and-roll world. Finally, his relationship with Yakko is one of mutual affection. He becomes very attached to her, and through her, he finds a maternal figure and a sense of family that was missing after the death of his parents. The story does not provide a dramatic arc of personal development for Jorgito, but his situation evolves naturally as he integrates further into the expanded family circle of the characters. His life becomes more stable and filled with more people who care for him, moving from a somewhat lonely existence reliant on his brother and a cat to a more connected one. Besides his emotional maturity and responsible nature, Jorgito does not display any notable or fantastical abilities. His primary strength is his steadfast and resilient character, which allows him to create a stable environment for himself amidst the chaos of his brother's musical ambitions.
