Description
Braikingboss is a central figure in the narrative, serving as the former supreme leader and commander of the world's robot army. His backstory is defined by his dominion over the planet, where robots subjugated humanity for ages under his iron-fisted rule. It was this tyrannical reign that led humanity to summon a savior, a mysterious girl named Luna, who was seen as a threat to his power. In an effort to eliminate this threat, Braikingboss ordered his three most powerful cyborg warriors—Casshern, Dio, and Leda—to assassinate her. This single command set into motion the cataclysmic event known as the Ruin, which caused the world to decay and robbed robots of their immortality, making them susceptible to rust and death.

Despite his history as a genocidal conqueror responsible for bringing about the end of the world, Braikingboss is not portrayed as a one-dimensional villain. He possesses a complex personality, often appearing as an enigmatic and watchful figure who, after the Ruin, wanders the desolate wasteland observing the consequences of his actions from afar. He dismisses the widespread rumor that devouring Casshern can stop the Ruin, showing a deeper understanding of the world's plight. His character is marked by a certain stoic pragmatism and a sense of responsibility, as he shows a degree of care for his fallen soldiers, taking the time to have graves dug for each of his robot troops who perished. He is content with finally dying only after he has completed this task, suggesting a sense of duty and atonement for his followers.

Braikingboss's primary motivation shifts over the course of the story. Initially driven by a desire to maintain absolute power and eliminate any opposition, his actions inadvertently lead to universal ruin. In the aftermath, his motivations become more obscure and internal. He seems to seek a form of resolution or justice for his sins, as he eventually leads his remaining army to seek salvation from Luna. In the final confrontation, his motivation crystallizes into a desire for atonement through death. He fights Casshern in a hopeless battle, and his last words are an order to kill Luna to atone for his sin of causing the ruination of the world. He perceives his death at the hands of his former subordinate as a form of divine retribution, finding contentment that he is finally receiving justice for the destruction he caused.

His role in the story is that of the architect of the world's suffering. While Casshern is the one who physically killed Luna and is thus the target of the world's hatred, Braikingboss is the true cause of the cataclysm. He serves as a background figure for much of the series, a ghost of the past whose actions drive the present misery. However, he steps into the forefront near the climax, where his final confrontation with Casshern serves as a crucial resolution to the central conflict of sin and punishment.

Key relationships define his past and his end. His relationship with Casshern is that of a former master to his most powerful subordinate, and later, of a sinner to his executioner. He gave the order that ruined Casshern's life, and it is Casshern who ultimately delivers his final judgment. He also has a significant connection to the scientist Ohji, who originally created Casshern, Dio, and Leda as an experiment while working under Braikingboss. Furthermore, his former subordinates Dio and Leda scheme to take his place as rulers of the world, highlighting his fall from absolute power. His relationship with his robot army is complex; while he was their ruthless commander, he also demonstrates a sense of responsibility towards them in their final days.

Braikingboss undergoes a significant development from a tyrannical ruler to a wanderer consumed by the weight of his past. He is initially haunted by the memories of his former empire and the terrible things he did to maintain his power. As the story progresses, he transitions from a passive observer to an active participant seeking an end to his journey. His ultimate development is his acceptance of death as a just punishment for his sins, finding peace not in survival or renewed power, but in his own destruction at the hands of the one he wronged most.

As a robot, Braikingboss possesses notable abilities befitting a powerful prototype and former commander. He is physically formidable, possessing immense strength, agility, and durability far superior to that of a human or standard robot. His physical appearance is distinctive and intimidating: he is bald with a chrome dome, often hidden under a tattered cloak, and has a two-faced design where one side is covered in synthetic skin while the other is featureless black metal with large bolts, including an empty eye socket on his dark side. His single, leering red eye gives him a perpetually sly and calculating expression. He is shown to be a capable fighter, able to hold his own in a confrontation with Casshern, even if the battle is ultimately hopeless. His presence alone commands authority, and he is a shrewd manipulator, as seen when he taunts other characters to reveal their true nature.
