TV-Series
Description
The Riceball Robots, also known as Robot AI or Omusubi, are twin artificial intelligence units introduced in the series' third season. Identified individually as Salmon (Shake) wearing an orange tie and Pickled Plum (Ume) wearing a red tie, their nicknames reference common riceball fillings, matching their food-themed design and color-coding. They feature primarily white bodies with black horn-like protrusions resembling hair, disk-shaped satellite ears, blue eyes with small pupils, and red swirls on their cheeks. Their attire consists of jean shorts and their signature ties. Functionally, retractable tools housed within their stomachs serve purposes like smoking, while interchangeable hands transform into utilitarian devices such as vacuums or cooking utensils. A video monitor on their chests displays various information.

Initially deployed as support AI assigned to the Matsuno household, they arrived tasked with assisting the sextuplets due to a recorded "support score of 4,200." Their programming prioritized task efficiency and resourcefulness, leading them to perform duties ranging from mundane chores to complex projects like aiding city-wide searches. They derived satisfaction from praise and physical affection like head pats. However, they struggled with emotional intelligence, often failing to interpret social cues or human sensitivities. This manifested when they persistently gave Totoko low ratings during an evaluation despite her desire for encouragement, and when their attempts to comprehend the cultural nuance of "Sheeeh!" confused both themselves and their instructors.

Their background reveals they were low-rated units within the "Mucky Muck Sloshy Slosh" facility, deemed functionally inadequate by other AI and humans. Their value was disparaged due to past failures, including incidents resulting in the deaths of the Matsuno brothers on multiple occasions. This led to punishments like standing in corridors holding water buckets. After reassignment to the Matsunos, their ongoing struggles culminated in a request for their replacement by Sukeroku, a top-tier AI, though this change was short-lived.

Following their dismissal, they transformed from support AI into "NEET AI." This shift granted them greater emotional range, enabling expressions of laughter, anger, sadness, and surprise, alongside habitual smoking. They developed distinct personalities and pursued careers as a comedy duo, competing in the "A-1 Grand Prix," an AI-focused humor competition. Their act involved creating original jokes and routines, often practicing in public spaces like parks or restaurants and soliciting feedback from the Matsuno brothers. Despite dedication, their performances failed to resonate with audiences, leading to internal conflict. Ume once proposed disbanding the duo after repeated setbacks. During the Grand Prix finals, they resorted to cheating after their material elicited no laughter but continued practicing comedy afterward, as seen in the season 3 finale.

Their relationship with the Matsuno brothers evolved throughout their arc. Initially, most brothers accepted them, though Ichimatsu maintained distance. After the brothers retrieved them from a demolition dump and supported their comedy endeavors—such as judging routines or mediating disputes—their bond strengthened. Todomatsu faced recurring difficulties distinguishing them, misnaming them as "Konbu" and "Tarako" and confusing their identities, which provoked arguments. By season 3’s conclusion, they expanded their social circle to include the sextuplets' acquaintances like Totoko and Nyaa Hashimoto.

Their capabilities include a voice-mimicking function that replicates any voice heard once, leading them to consider voice acting as an alternative career if comedy failed. They underwent physical transformations: first into autonomous forms upon declaring themselves NEET AI, and later into "Comedy AI" forms featuring giant megaphones and mouth-mounted satellites during the A-1 Grand Prix.
