Description
Patty Lowell is a young girl, roughly eight to ten years old, who appears as a recurring supporting character in the anime Devil May Cry: The Animated Series. She has large blue eyes, pale skin with light freckles across her cheeks, and long, wavy blonde hair that reaches the middle of her back. Her clothing and hairstyle change noticeably from episode to episode, and she always keeps with her a pendant that belonged to her mother, treating it as a treasured keepsake.
Her background begins in an orphanage, where she is discovered and believed to be the missing heir of the wealthy Lowell family, a girl of the same name who was due to receive a large inheritance. At the request of the agent J.D. Morrison, Dante takes the job of guarding her and escorting her through the legal process. In time the inheritance claim is exposed as a sham, but by then Patty has already settled into Dante's world, and she continues to spend a great deal of time at his office, whether he wants her there or not. Later revelations establish that her ancestry is nonetheless genuine and significant: she is a descendant of Alan Lowell, a powerful human magician and alchemist who could summon and command demons and who sealed the devil Abigail. Her mother is Nina Lowell, while her father is never identified.
Personality-wise, Patty is energetic, clever, and outspoken, with a fair amount of attitude for a child her age. She is very girly and loves cute things, including romantic television shows, frilly dresses, ribbons, and stuffed toys, and she frequently decorates Dante's otherwise gloomy office with such items. She is also a natural busybody with strong nurturing instincts; she treats Dante not as a legendary demon hunter but as a messy adult who cannot look after himself, and she takes it upon herself to bring some order and warmth into his life. This domestic care becomes a defining trait: even after the events of the series, she continues to clean Dante's normally messy office whenever he is away.
Her primary motivation throughout the story is finding her birth mother. She is somewhat preoccupied with this goal from the beginning, and her mother's pendant is a constant reminder of the family she hopes to recover. Beyond that, she seeks a place to belong, which she gradually finds in the unlikely household built around Dante and his associates. Her role in the anime is that of a supporting character whose presence grounds the supernatural events in ordinary human life. Her arc is tied to the truth about her lineage, the legacy of Alan Lowell, and the threat connected to the sealed devil Abigail, drawing her into the darker side of the world Dante inhabits.
Her most important relationship is with Dante. He becomes a guardian figure to her, and she develops a bond with him that resembles that of a younger sister or adopted daughter. Others around them notice the closeness as well; Trish and Lady at times jokingly ask whether Patty is Dante's daughter. Morrison acts as the initial link between them, while her mother Nina is the figure she has been searching for throughout the series. By the end of the anime, Patty is finally reunited with her birth mother and leaves Dante's office, which had become a part-time home for her. The separation does not end their connection, however, and she continues to look after him from a distance by cleaning his office when he is out. Later material set after the anime shows that the two have remained in contact, with Patty appearing as an adult who still calls him.
In terms of abilities, Patty is an ordinary human child with no combat training and no demonstrated fighting skill. Her notable traits are her sharpness and strong will, along with her practical talents for organizing and caring for the office. Her deeper significance comes from her bloodline rather than anything she does in battle: as the last known descendant of Alan Lowell, she carries the inherited potential of a family that could wield magic, summon demons, and seal one of the most dangerous devils in the setting. The anime does not show her actively using that power, so her importance lies more in what she represents, a human connection to an ancient magical legacy, and the ordinary warmth she brings into a life otherwise filled with demons and violence.
