TV-Series
Description
Patty Lowell is a young girl, roughly eight to ten years old, with large blue eyes, long wavy blonde hair that reaches the middle of her back, pale skin, and faint freckles across her cheeks. She is introduced in the Devil May Cry anime when she appears at the office of the devil hunter Dante, claiming that she is about to inherit a large family fortune and that people are trying to kill her for it. Dante accepts the job of protecting her, but it is soon revealed that she is not the real heiress; she was used as a diversion so that the actual Patty Lowell could claim the inheritance in safety. Dante sees through the plan but chooses not to turn her in, and she continues to spend time at his office, eventually treating it as a part-time home.
Her background ties her to the supernatural history of the story's world. She is a descendant of Alan Lowell, a powerful sorcerer and alchemist who sealed away the devil Abigail, and her mother, Nina Lowell, served as the last guardian of the magic talisman associated with that seal. This heritage places her at the center of the anime's main conflict, as forces connected to Abigail's release target her and those around her.
In personality, Patty is lively, outspoken, and very girly. She loves cute things and frequently decorates Dante's otherwise gloomy office with ribbons and plush toys, and she enjoys romantic television shows. She is not intimidated by Dante and freely criticizes his messy, careless lifestyle, treating him less as a legendary demon hunter and more as an adult who needs someone to keep him in order. Her presence brings a sense of ordinary human warmth to Dante's otherwise isolated and dangerous life, and she becomes the only regular female presence around him aside from Lady and Trish.
Her central motivation is the search for family. Having grown up in an orphanage, she is deeply interested in finding her birth mother and is somewhat preoccupied with her throughout the series. The resolution of this search forms her personal arc: by the end of the anime she is reunited with her mother and leaves Dante's office. Even after moving on, she does not forget about him, and she continues to look after him by cleaning his normally messy office whenever he is away.
Her relationship with Dante is best understood as that of a cheerful, sometimes irritating little sister and an aloof but caring older brother. Dante initially introduces her as his daughter during a job to conceal her identity, and Lady and Trish later joke about the possibility, reflecting how closely she becomes tied to his life. She is not a fighter and shows no combat abilities in the story; her importance lies in her bloodline and her emotional role. Her ancestry implies an inherited capacity for magic, though this potential is not developed or displayed during the anime. In later material set after the anime, she reappears as an adult who remains in contact with Dante, which shows that the bond formed during her childhood endures.
