Description
Modeus is a demon who appears as a supporting character in the Devil May Cry animated series. He is the younger twin brother of Baul, and together the two were among the apprentices of the legendary Dark Knight Sparda. After Sparda sealed away the demon world and vanished, Modeus chose to lay down his sword and live in peace among humans, unlike his brother who remained aggressive and determined to claim power.

In appearance, Modeus has long black hair and pointed ears, and he typically dresses in a dark coat. His demeanor is calm, gentle, and restrained, and he is described as the more benign and pacifistic of the two brothers. He dislikes violence and prefers to avoid conflict, which led him to abandon the demon sword he once carried. His honorable character was recognized by Sparda, who entrusted Modeus with his will more so than he did Baul.

Modeus becomes involved in the anime's main story when his brother Baul challenges Dante to a duel. Modeus attempts to prevent the confrontation, but he is unsuccessful. He has a brief but significant connection with the young girl Patty Lowell, who takes a liking to him and invites him to share a sundae at Dante's shop. This interaction highlights his gentle nature and his ability to connect with humans.

His role in the narrative is primarily as a tragic figure caught between his loyalty to his brother and his desire for peace. He does not undergo a major personal transformation within the series itself, but his presence underscores the contrasting paths taken by Sparda's students. In terms of abilities, Modeus is a powerful demon who was trained personally by Sparda, making him far stronger than ordinary demons. He wields a devil sword and has access to a Devil Trigger form that augments his strength, speed, and durability, granting him a more demonic appearance with scales, claws, and wings. Despite his power, he refrains from using it unless absolutely necessary, preferring to live quietly as an ordinary human.
