Description
Christopher Armalite is a character from the anime series Scrapped Princess. He serves as the young but highly capable leader of the Obstinate Arrow, the Fifth Special Operations unit of the King's Army of the Kingdom of Lineburn. An orphan raised within the military system from early childhood, he rose through the ranks due to his outstanding talent and rigorous training, achieving his command position through considerable personal effort. As a combat specialist, he is a formidable warrior whose skills are initially on par with the protagonist Shannon Casull, and his chosen weapon is a large, foldable battle-axe that he can easily conceal.
At the beginning of the story, Christopher and his unit are assigned the mission to eliminate Pacifica Casull, the "Scrapped Princess" prophesied to destroy the world. He initially fills the role of an honorable antagonist, taking his duty seriously and believing that executing the order is for the greater good. Rather than attacking recklessly, he first seeks to understand his targets. He observes the Casull siblings and even tests Shannon's swordsmanship in a duel to gather data. His approach is methodical, and during this early phase, he employs ruthless tactics, such as kidnapping the innkeeper Winia Chester to use as bait for Pacifica's guardians.
Despite his antagonistic role, Christopher demonstrates a personal code of honor and a developing sense of morality. While holding Winia captive, he treats her with uncharacteristic kindness, offering her his cloak for warmth. After being defeated by Shannon in the Glass Canyon duel, he is spared and promises to cease his pursuit, acknowledging a growing respect for the Casulls' conviction. His character is further defined by a strong sense of duty to civilians; when a Peacemaker arrives in the city of Taurus, threatening to slaughter innocents, Christopher and his team disobey their orders to withdraw and instead ally with the Casulls to protect the populace.
As the story progresses, Christopher's motivations evolve from blind adherence to his mission to a personal quest for the truth. To gain access to the royal castle's resources and continue his research, he is officially adopted by his superior, Baroness Bailaha, becoming Christopher Bailaha. Within the castle, he befriends Crown Prince Forcis, the biological brother of Pacifica, and becomes sympathetic to the prince's pacifist ideals. He dedicates himself to studying the ancient Grendel prophecies, seeking to verify the validity of the one that condemns Pacifica, especially after discovering evidence that other prophecies have been false. This internal conflict, born from investigating the very foundation of his mission, is a key part of his development. Ultimately, he defies the King's orders by helping Pacifica escape captivity and formally betrays the kingdom to ally with the Casull family, fighting alongside them against the army until Pacifica's sixteenth birthday.
In terms of key relationships, his bond with Winia Chester is significant. Beginning with her kidnapping, the two develop a mutual affection. After he departs, Winia sends him letters, much to the amusement of his female squad members. He initially keeps his distance to protect her from the danger surrounding his mission, but the two are ultimately seen together at the series' end, implied to have entered a permanent relationship, potentially marriage. Within his own unit, Obstinate Arrow, Christopher is a natural leader who commands the absolute respect and loyalty of his team, all of whom are willing to follow him into treason. Although he is the youngest member, he is the de facto leader, particularly after Baroness Bailaha is dismissed from her command. His notable abilities include masterful combat prowess with his unique battle-axe and strong tactical leadership skills. He is a developing hero whose journey is defined by questioning his duty, seeking the truth behind a prophecy, and choosing to protect the individual he was sworn to kill.
