Description
Léona is the princess of the kingdom of Papnica, a land renowned for producing gifted mages. She first appears when she travels to Dermline Island to undergo the ritual to become a sage. During her stay she meets Dai, the young protagonist, and despite a poor first impression, they quickly become friends. Before leaving the island, she gives Dai a dagger known as the Sun Knife and encourages him to become a strong hero. This encounter sets the story in motion, as Léona’s report to her father leads to the hero Avan being sent to train Dai.
Léona is a spirited and outspoken young woman who does not hesitate to say what she thinks. She is highly active and sometimes behaves in a tomboyish manner, freely expressing her opinions even to those older or of higher status. Beneath this lively exterior, she possesses a strong sense of justice, sharp intelligence, and remarkable leadership qualities. When the Undead Knight Hyunkel destroys Papnica and her father goes missing, she takes command of what remains of the kingdom at only fourteen years old. She proves to be a capable and charismatic ruler, coordinating relief efforts and later organizing a summit of world leaders to unite against the demon king’s forces.
Her motivations are rooted in protecting her people and upholding the ideals of justice and peace. While she is not a frontline fighter, her role as a moral and strategic anchor is vital. She forgives Hyunkel for his role in her kingdom’s devastation, sentencing him instead to live and fight as a true disciple of Avan, a decision that demonstrates her capacity for mercy and long‑term thinking.
Léona’s key relationships include a deep bond with Dai, who becomes her closest friend and romantic interest, though neither openly confesses their feelings. She is also close to the other members of the group: she respects the magician Popp as a comrade, shares a sisterly friendship with the healer Maam, and serves as a calming influence on the conflicted Hyunkel. She greatly admires Queen Flora of Carl, who later entrusts her with the fifth mark of Avan, making Léona an official disciple even though she never trained directly under Avan.
Over the course of the story, Léona grows from a princess in training into a confident leader and sage. After a period of supporting the party with healing magic, she leaves to focus on rebuilding Papnica and forging alliances. She eventually returns for the final battle, having mastered the powerful sealing spell Minakator, which she uses to break the barrier around the Demon King’s fortress. In battle she wields healing spells such as Behoma, which proves crucial in key fights, and also commands fire and ice magic like Mera and Hyado. Although her combat prowess is modest compared to the dedicated warriors, her courage and resolve are unshakeable; during the final confrontation, she even manages to wound the true form of the Demon King Vearn with her dagger, inspiring Dai when he falters.
After the war, Léona continues to rule Papnica and patiently waits for Dai’s return, believing he will one day come back to her.
