Description
Miyako Miyazaki, also known by her nickname Miya-Miya, is a first-year student at Muroe High School and a member of the school's kendo club. She is the girlfriend of Danjūrō Eiga. Outwardly, she presents herself as a very pretty, friendly, and sweet-natured girl who can easily charm those around her. This gentle facade, however, conceals a strikingly different true personality: she possesses a dark, sadistic, and cruel streak that emerges when she is provoked or when she believes she can get away with it. This hidden side is often visually accompanied by a black aura, and she can instantly switch back to her innocent demeanor when someone approaches. In the manga version, she also smokes at school and associates with girls who appear to be delinquents, though these traits are absent from the anime adaptation.

Miyako initially joined the kendo club solely because her boyfriend Danjūrō was a member. She found the activity boring at first, but her attitude changed when she realized that kendo gave her a legitimate outlet for her desire to strike and hurt others. This revelation led her to genuinely enjoy the sport. She possesses natural talent in kendo, displaying quick and powerful strikes. Early in the series, her offense is limited almost entirely to head strikes (men), but she later develops a wider range of techniques, successfully landing a kote (wrist) strike against a strong opponent in episode 22. She competes in the position of second vanguard (jiho) during team matches.

A key aspect of Miyako's story is her fear of Reimi Odajima, a middle school classmate who became obsessively fixated on her after an incident involving a boy both girls liked. Reimi stalks Miyako and follows her to tournaments, taking photos and videos, which makes Miyako increasingly paranoid and unable to concentrate during matches. Another important relationship is her dynamic with upperclassman Sayako Kuwahara. The two start off poorly when Miyako's dark side emerges and she throws Sayako into a lake. After the coach encourages her to apologize, Miyako awkwardly works to repair the relationship and eventually becomes friends with Sayako.

Over the course of the series, Miyako undergoes noticeable development. She begins as a beginner with little genuine interest in kendo, but her motivation shifts as she learns to enjoy the sport for its own sake, not just as a way to be near Danjūrō. Her skills improve considerably, and she becomes a more reliable member of the team. Her dual personality remains a defining trait, but she learns to better manage her sadistic impulses within the context of the club and its rules.
