Description
Erina Ogura is a rival idol and supporting character in Kirarin Revolution. She is fourteen years old and shares the same agency as the protagonist, Tsukishima Kirari. Her birthday is on November 20, making her a Scorpio, and her blood type is B. Erina has distinctive purple hair that she almost always styles into two pigtails tied with ribbons, paired with brown eyes. She is often accompanied by her pet dog, a small creature named TanTan who sometimes assists in her various schemes.
Before Kirari transferred to their idol school, Erina enjoyed the status of being the most popular and influential student, essentially the "princess" of the classroom. This position was immediately threatened by Kirari’s natural and unaffected charm, which inadvertently drew the attention and admiration of their peers away from Erina. This loss of social standing is the root of her intense professional jealousy and competitive drive.
In terms of personality, Erina presents a carefully crafted public image of being sweet, innocent, and childlike. However, this facade hides a cunning, self-centered, and ambitious individual. She is notorious for using a crybaby act and her perceived charm to manipulate others, including staff members and other students, in an attempt to sabotage Kirari's career. Despite her elaborate plans, which range from switching job offers to ruining commercial shoots, her schemes almost always backfire in comedic fashion, often ultimately benefiting Kirari instead. Her frustration with constantly being outshone has even led her to dramatically reinvent her image on occasion, such as adopting the persona of a "sukeban," or female juvenile delinquent, to appear tougher and more formidable.
Erina’s primary role in the story is that of a comedic rival to Kirari. Their initial encounter was inauspicious, beginning when Kirari accidentally spilled food on Erina's expensive clothes, an event that cemented Erina's determination to defeat her. While she views Kirari as her main obstacle and refers to her condescendingly, Erina’s feelings are complicated by the fact that Kirari remains cheerfully oblivious to the animosity, often treating Erina with genuine friendliness. Her personal life also includes a series of short-lived crushes. She develops feelings for Subaru, only to be shocked upon discovering he is Kirari's brother, and later shows a temporary interest in Seiji. Her key relationships outside of Kirari include her dog TanTan, who is her partner in mischief, and her association with the comedic duo partner Mochida Mochio, as she gradually becomes more associated with comedic rather than glamorous idol work.
Over the course of the series, Erina undergoes a notable development. Despite her relentless scheming, she consistently loses to Kirari's sincerity and talent, and her career trajectory becomes less about serious idol stardom and more focused on comedic bits and bodily humor, despite her initial desires to be a top singer. By the final episodes, her character softens from a bitter rival to a more supportive, albeit still distant, friend. In a significant turning point, she leaves the shared agency to establish her own office. Ultimately, during Kirari's competition for the Diamond Queen title, Erina puts aside her jealousy to offer genuine words of encouragement, telling Kirari not to be anxious. While not blessed with Kirari's natural luck or singing prowess, her notable ability lies in her acting skills, though even this talent is eventually overshadowed by Kirari’s growth.
