Description
Machina is one of the dragon partners in the series Dragonaut - The Resonance, bonded to Akira Souya. She is a water-type dragon who can assume a human-like form known as her Communicator form. In her human appearance, she has long blue hair and orange eyes. Machina acts as a big sister figure toward Akira, frequently correcting her speech and keeping her in check, yet she makes it clear that she follows Akira not out of obligation but because she chooses to. The bond between them is deep and affectionate, with Machina described as innocent and chaste in contrast to Akira’s more lively and carefree personality.

Machina’s motivations are rooted in her devotion to Akira. She protects her and fights alongside her out of genuine love and loyalty. In the story, Machina plays a supporting role as a dragon ally, assisting in battles against hostile dragons from the asteroid Thanatos. Her abilities center on water manipulation. In Communicator form, she can control water. When she transforms into her full dragon form, she can attack with liquid whips, concentrated balls of water, and unleash countless ice crystals from her wings. Her attacks are noted to be especially effective against fire-type elements.

Machina’s relationship with Akira is the core of her character. She also shows interest in the bond between Jin Kamishina and Toa, as well as in Gio, to whom Resonance does not work. Her development is marked by tragedy: when Akira is killed on Mars by Garnet MacLaine, the Resonance between them is severed and Machina goes berserk, transforming into a vicious rampaging form until she is stopped by Gio and falls into the Martian depths with Akira’s body. Later, she encases herself and Akira in ice. A year afterward, she merges with the entity Thanatos as part of its soul. When Thanatos finally leaves Earth to find peace, the spirits of Machina and Akira appear together, smiling at each other, signifying their belief that humans and dragons can coexist peacefully before their spirits finally depart.
