Description
Hinako Mochida is a young girl who appears in the anime Myself; Yourself. She is ten years old and a fifth-grade student at the town's elementary school, attending class 5-3. Her birthday is on August 5th, making her a Leo, and her blood type is A. Hinako has beige or greyish hair that she typically wears in two pigtails, and her eyes are gold.
In terms of personality, Hinako is characterized by a strong desire to be seen as an adult and to be treated as one, despite her young age. She is intelligent, with a mind that rivals that of a grown-up, and she carries herself in a manner that is proper and well-behaved. This maturity, however, often leads to her being isolated from her peers, with whom she has little in common. Underneath this composed exterior, she is stubborn and proud, and can be sharp-tongued or blunt with people she trusts, making her a somewhat contradictory character who is both outward-looking and inwardly guarded. She dislikes being treated like a child or considered childish, and gets embarrassed when caught doing things that reveal her actual age, such as ordering a children's meal for the accompanying toy. Despite her efforts to appear grown-up, she still has moments of pure childishness, such as needing a large plush toy named Yeti-kun to fall asleep. Her hobbies include collecting fancy goods and accessories.
Hinako's primary motivation in the story stems from her infatuation with an older boy named Shusuke Wakatsuki. Her feelings begin when he saves her from a group of bullies who had stolen her bag. Determined to win his affection, she actively seeks to transform herself into the kind of girl she believes he would like. This leads her to ask the main protagonist, Sana Hidaka, and another friend, Aoi Oribe, for advice on how to become more adult, focusing on superficial traits she thinks are important, such as having a larger chest and being a good cook.
Her role in the wider narrative is that of a minor supporting character whose presence is largely confined to a specific story arc. She is introduced as a recurring presence who intrudes upon the lives of the main cast, primarily to pursue her crush on Shusuke. Her arc involves her moving into Sana's apartment for a brief period after learning her mother will be away on her birthday, leading to the main characters throwing her a surprise party. She eventually confesses her feelings to Shusuke but is gently rejected. Despite this, she gains a small measure of the respect she craves, as he treats her like an adult during the exchange, and she is comforted by Sana afterwards. Her story concludes with a glimpse of her future, where she is shown in a relationship with a younger boy named Youki, the cousin of another character named Asami Hoshino. Her development is minimal, as she remains essentially the same person, still wishing to be seen as mature even as she grows older. Her most notable ability is her high level of intelligence, which sets her apart from other children her age.
