Description
Chocolat Meilleure is the main protagonist of the story, a young witch from the Magical World. In human terms, she is around ten years old, stands 153 centimeters tall, and has a birthday on August 13th. She is recognizable by her long, straight orange or red hair, large emerald green eyes, and the pointed ears characteristic of witches. When living in the Human World, she adopts the alias Chocolat Kato.

Her background is marked by the legacy of her mother, Cinnamon, a legendary witch who was once a candidate for the throne of the Magical World. Chocolat resides with her powerful wizard grandfather, Corne. Her familiar, a magical frog named Duke, is a lazy but potent companion; it is later revealed in some versions of the story that Duke is actually her uncle, who was transformed to protect Cinnamon. A central part of her heritage is that her father is Glace, the Grand Duke of Darkness and leader of the Ogres, making her a child of both worlds.

Chocolat possesses an energetic, extroverted, and forceful personality. She is brave, confident, and deeply caring, with a strong sense of loyalty to those she holds dear. However, she is also known for being short-tempered, aggressive, and prone to violence, often using her catchphrase about whupping someone's butt. This bold nature makes her extremely popular in the Magical World, but in the Human World, it often scares boys away, making her less successful in the queen's competition than her more demure best friend, Vanilla Mieux. Despite this, her cheerful and friendly personality allows her to easily make friends with boys, even if she does not win their romantic hearts.

Chocolat's primary motivation is to win the competition to become the next Queen of the Magical World, a desire intertwined with honoring her mother's legacy. Her role in the story is as a candidate in this contest, for which she is sent to the Human World alongside her rival and best friend, Vanilla. Their mission is to collect the crystallized hearts of boys, with different colors representing different levels and types of emotion. Her aggressive approach often yields yellow hearts of fear, while she struggles to gain the pink and crimson hearts of love that are worth more points.

Key relationships define her journey. Her bond with Vanilla Mieux is central, as they are best friends whose loyalty is repeatedly tested by their rivalry. Her relationship with Pierre, a mysterious and initially cold boy at her school, evolves from antagonism to deep romantic love; he is later revealed to be the Prince of the Ogres. Their connection is complicated by their parents' histories and the political tensions between their worlds. Her mentor and guardian in the Human World is the Rock n' Robin, a pop idol wizard who records her progress.

Throughout the narrative, Chocolat undergoes significant development. She matures by learning to understand a wider range of human emotions, moving beyond her initial bluntness. A major power she discovers is her ability as a Purifier, allowing her to cleanse the dark noir hearts that threaten others. The resolution of her story differs across versions. In the anime adaptation, though Vanilla wins the contest, she abdicates the throne, allowing Chocolat to become Queen of the Magical World. In the original manga, Chocolat and Pierre go missing after a final battle and lose their memories, returning several years later to celebrate Vanilla's coronation as queen instead.
