Description
Count Elec, whose real name is Jack Electel, is a character who returns in the anime series Rockman.EXE Beast+ after a prolonged absence. He is the operator of the NetNavi ElecMan.EXE and hails from a formerly wealthy and noble family, the Elecitel family, with ties to the country of Kingland. His background is marked by a dramatic and romantic past; as a young man, he fell in love with Ann Elecitel, captivated by her natural ability to generate electricity. He famously crashed her arranged wedding to propose to her with a large diamond, promising her a life of happiness and ease.
In terms of personality, Count Elec is an energetic and eccentric individual with a deep passion for rock and roll music, often seen playing his treasured electric guitar. He has a cheerful and hyperactive demeanor, which was a marked contrast to his more serious portrayal in the video games. Despite being a former antagonist as a member of the World Three organization, he does not take his villainous work as seriously as others and has a comedic, somewhat melodramatic flair. He enjoys using electricity-themed wordplay and seems to have a genuine love for all things related to his signature element.
When Count Elec reappears in Rockman.EXE Beast+, his primary motivation is to avoid his estranged wife, Ann. Having squandered much of the family fortune, which Ann lavishly spent on overindulgent luxuries, he fled and went into hiding at a restaurant called MaHa Niban, hoping to live a quiet life away from her. The central conflict of his appearance in this series revolves around his fraught domestic life, as Ann tracks him down not for reconciliation, but to claim what she believes is left of their money.
His role in the story is largely a supporting and comic one, centered on the episode "The Elecitel Family Situation". When Ann discovers that Count Elec has no money left, she confiscates his NetNavi, ElecMan, who had been managing the inheritance. This act forces his friends, Dekao Oyama and Dingo, to challenge Ann to a NetBattle to win ElecMan back. The conflict eventually requires the assistance of the protagonist, Netto Hikari, and his Navi, Rockman, to resolve. The battle results in Count Elec’s prized guitar being destroyed, but not before a hidden map to the family’s final remaining treasure is discovered inside it.
Key relationships define much of his character arc. His most significant relationship is with his wife, Ann Elecitel. While their romance began as a whirlwind fairytale, it has soured into a relationship of fear and resentment on his part, as he runs from her explosive temper and financial demands. He has a strained relationship with his older brother, Gauss Magnus, with whom he shares a bitter rivalry. Despite his troubled marriage, his niece, Tesla Magnets, is noted to be fond of him. He also maintains friendships with his former World Three associates, often finding a sense of camaraderie and a found family with them after leaving his life of crime.
In terms of development, Count Elec has largely completed his transition from a genuine threat in the first series to a reformed and slightly hapless figure by the time of Beast+. His appearance serves more to conclude a personal chapter in his life rather than to undergo a new transformation. The episode showcases that despite his attempts to escape his past and his wife, he is still bound to his family legacy and the consequences of his earlier choices, though in a more lighthearted and humorous manner than in previous seasons.
Count Elec’s notable abilities are not centered on physical combat, but on his technological operation and his unique personal flair. As an operator, he commands ElecMan.EXE, a powerful Electric-element NetNavi capable of generating and manipulating immense electrical currents to attack enemies and disable electronic systems. Furthermore, he possesses a natural affinity for electricity himself, often using electrical terms in his speech and enthusiastically receiving electric shocks, such as those from his wife. His iconic electric guitar is more than just an instrument; it appears to be a family heirloom that contains a secret compartment, hinting at its significance to the Elecitel family history.
