Description
Lanhua appears in the second season of the anime, Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch Pure, as a servant created by the antagonist Michel. She refers to herself as the wings of desire and contentment. Her design is inspired by Chinese aesthetics: she wears a red cheongsam decorated with a floral pattern, has long purple hair often styled with a red ribbon and two buns, and in her true form her eyes are red, while in her human guise they appear brown.
Her personality is marked by immense vanity and cruelty. She believes herself to be the most beautiful woman in the ocean and regards the mermaid princesses as ugly. She holds a contemptuous view of humans, seeing them as toys that deserve punishment for polluting the sea and sky. She is quick to attack with sparkling shards of ice from her fan and takes pleasure in using her powers to harm others.
Lanhua's primary motivation is to serve Michel and carry out his will. She seeks to eliminate the mermaid princesses and enforce her master's goals. Her role in the story is that of a recurring antagonist who uses her unique abilities to hinder the heroines. She was created by Michel alongside two other servants, Lady Bat and Alala, indicating she is a constructed being rather than a naturally occurring mermaid or human.
Her key relationships are with her creator Michel, whom she serves loyally, and with the mermaid princesses Lucia Nanami and Hanon Hosho, whom she directly opposes. She shows no development or redemption over the course of the series, remaining a static antagonist dedicated to her mission.
Notable abilities include the power to transform into a dozen smaller, deceptively cute copies of herself. These copies play a tune that forces listeners to dance uncontrollably until they collapse from exhaustion or die. She also possesses a personal song titled Hana to Chou no Serenade, a Flowers and Butterflies Serenade, which she uses to enchant and overpower her targets. She can wield a fan that projects sharp ice shards as a weapon, and she is capable of dividing her form at will.
