A pragmatic warrior and bodyguard, he once served Sanmoto Gorōzaemon’s Hyaku Monogatari Clan as an unflinching Edo-period assassin until a clash with Rihan Nura ignited self-reflection. A child’s heartfelt invocation of his legend resurrected buried memories, spurring him to renounce Sanmoto and ally with the Nura Clan through a sakazuki pact with Rihan.

Towering at 195 cm, Kurotabou wields an imposing presence marked by blue-black hair, piercing azure eyes, and subtle forehead horns. His signature black monk robes and straw hat cloak a hidden arsenal of weapons, deployable singly or en masse. In human guise, he dons pinstriped suits, eyes perpetually shut—a disguise that backfires humorously, as when commuters misjudge his closed-eyed stance on a train.

Stoic yet vain, he harbors a rivalry with peers like Aotabō, masking latent empathy beneath claims of human indifference. Born from children’s protective wishes, his core compels him to shield allies like Natsumi Torii from curses or confront threats to humans, betraying a duality shaped by his creation and Sanmoto’s betrayal.

Loyalty to the Nura Clan anchors his journey. He avenges Natsumi’s curse by hunting Sodemogi-sama in the Shikoku Arc, clashes with the Shikoku Hachijūhakki Yakō, and aids Rikuo against Hagoromo Gitsune’s forces in Kyōto, merging matoi techniques to bolster their might. The Hyaku Monogatari Arc sees him infiltrate enemy ranks, rescue Natsumi and Saori from Yanagida, and confront his past.

Evolving from a reticent enforcer to a Nura Clan leader, Kurotabou balances protectiveness and respect toward Rikuo, whom he once babysat—enduring the future Third Head’s childish antics.
