Description
Futa, also known as Futa de la Stella, is a young boy who possesses an extraordinary and highly sought-after ranking ability. His full name translates to Futa of the Stars, a fitting title given the cosmic nature of his power. Physically, he is a small child with short, light brown hair and large, dark brown eyes. He is most often seen wearing a long, black-and-white striped scarf over a black sweatshirt. In his childhood, he stands at 123 cm and weighs 22 kg.
Futa's defining trait is his ability to create rankings that are said to be one hundred percent accurate. He is considered an invaluable informant for the Mafia because his rankings can cover almost any subject, with his book containing information on thousands of individuals. The process of ranking triggers a unique and dramatic phenomenon. When Futa begins his analysis, gravity around him becomes distorted, causing nearby objects and even people to float. At the same time, images of stars and galaxies appear in his eyes as he is said to communicate with a distant Ranking Planet to receive his information. This connection has a key limitation: rain interferes with the transmission, making his rankings unreliable or random. He must also be looking directly at a person to rank them, and he must write the results down instantly, as he claims he will forget them otherwise. His ability is so powerful that it is said anyone who possessed his ranking book could have the world at their mercy.
The very power that makes Futa so valuable is also the reason for his constant danger. He is perpetually chased by various Mafia families who seek to exploit his abilities for their own gain. He eventually seeks refuge with Tsunayoshi Sawada, having ranked Tsuna as having no ambition and being unable to refuse a request for help. Although he also ranked Tsuna as the weakest fighter, he was overjoyed when his ranking was proven wrong by Tsuna's actions while in Dying Will Mode. Filled with admiration, Futa began calling Tsuna his big brother and was allowed to live in the Sawada household for protection. His personality is generally that of a kind and helpful young boy, often seen playing with the other children in the household, Lambo and I-Pin.
Futa's role in the story is primarily that of a non-combatant informant and a close companion to the Sawada family. He is forced into a difficult situation during the Kokuyo Arc, where he is possessed by the rogue illusionist Mukuro Rokudo. Despite the possession, Futa's willpower allows him to resist ranking Tsuna's family due to the vow of omerta, the code of silence, forcing Mukuro to rely on older information. He does, however, end up attacking Bianchi and Tsuna before finally passing out from exhaustion after ten days of being controlled.
In the future timeline, an adult Futa has grown significantly taller and more mature, presenting himself as a quiet and serious young man. He still calls Tsuna his older brother, and his role in the family has evolved. While he is not shown to perform rankings, he undertakes missions to gather intelligence and has become a capable assistant to the family's technician, Giannini, demonstrating extensive knowledge in repairing and maintaining mechanical systems. His care for others remains a core trait, as he also reveals that before leaving for the future, he acted as a guardian and caretaker for the younger Lambo for three years. Over the course of the series, Futa's journey is one of growth from a hunted child relying on a supernatural power to a reliable young man who supports his found family through practical skills and unwavering loyalty.
