TV-Series
Description
I-Pin is a young girl who originates from Hong Kong and is brought to Japan by her profession as an assassin. Despite her very young age of five, she is noted to be the third most promising young assassin out of a ranking of over fifty thousand individuals. Her small stature is complemented by a distinctive appearance, characterized by a mostly bald head with a single black braid that stands upright on top, earning her the nickname tail-head. She has noticeably slanted eyes that are often depicted as closed due to her severe nearsightedness, and she lacks visible ears, though she can still hear perfectly well. Her typical outfit is a traditional red Chinese cheongsam-style shirt with white sleeve cuffs, worn over dark shorts.

In terms of personality, I-Pin is generally friendly, energetic, and warm-hearted, showing a particular fondness for food. Contrary to her background, she is not cold or malicious; rather, she is eager to engage with others and lives comfortably within the Sawada household. However, she also possesses a forgetful streak, which has led to dangerous misunderstandings, such as nearly poisoning friends with her special gyoza buns that are potent enough to kill a normal person. She is a skilled martial artist, trained in a style known as Gyoza-Kempo. This technique combines physical combat with special dumplings laced with garlic, which can numb an enemy's brain and cause their muscles to move involuntarily.

A defining and unusual characteristic of I-Pin is her technique called the Pinzu-Timed Super Explosion. Activated when she becomes extremely shy or angry, a countdown of Mahjong tile numbers appears on her forehead, culminating in a powerful explosion that leaves her unharmed. This ability often triggers when she encounters Kyoya Hibari, towards whom she has an endearing and powerful crush, primarily because he strongly resembles her martial arts master, Fon. Her shyness in his presence is so intense that it directly causes her to explode.

I-Pin's role in the story begins with a mistaken assassination attempt on Tsunayoshi Sawada due to her poor eyesight, but after the misunderstanding is cleared, she comes to live as a member of his household. She integrates into the group, often helping to look after and frequently getting into conflicts with another child, Lambo, whom she initially mistakes for a broccoli monster. Despite their sibling-like squabbles, she is shown to care for his well-being. She shares key relationships with several characters; she deeply respects her master Fon and is willing to assist him or oppose him in training as needed. Living under the same roof, she becomes close with Tsuna's mother, Nana Sawada, and the other girls, Kyoko Sasagawa and Haru Miura.

Throughout the series, I-Pin undergoes development that is most prominently seen in her future self, depicted as a teenager ten years older. This future version has a drastically different appearance, with full hair styled in two long braids, normal ears, and expressive gray eyes. She attends a Japanese college and works part-time at a ramen shop, demonstrating her successful integration into Japanese society. While she retains her formidable combat skills, her personality matures; she is more disciplined, capable of waiting for the perfect signal to strike in a team, and she appears to have outgrown her childhood crush on Hibari, no longer blushing or exploding in his presence. Notably, her Pinzu-Timed Super Explosion is sealed at this age, only being reactivated by the specific password broccoli monster. Her development is also marked by her growing linguistic abilities; while her child self speaks broken Japanese, her future self is fluent.

I-Pin is a competent fighter, able to hold her own against members of the Varia assassination squad even as a child. Her future self employs advanced techniques like Haisangen, a move used to lock and break an enemy's limbs and neck. Beyond her combat role, she serves as a kind and perceptive member of the group; on one occasion, she was the only one to successfully reach out to the isolated Chrome Dokuro by simply sharing a meal with her, helping to bring her into the fold.
